The New York Jets and general manager Darren Mougey continued their trend of extending young players this week, when they agreed to terms on a long-term contract extension with guard Joe Tippmann.

It was a long time coming for Tippmann, one of the more consistent offensive linemen the Jets have had in their recent history. He inked a well-deserved four-year, $62 million contract with $31 million guaranteed.

It was certainly a weight off the 25-year-old's shoulders. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding his future.

Tippmann's extension keeps him in New York through the 2030 season, and it's safe to say the former second-round draft pick doesn't have to worry about packing up and moving any time soon.

The Jets' offensive lineman spoke with reporters following his extension and was incredibly honest about the weight that's now off his shoulders.

"It was antsy, you know, between me and my wife, we were kind of trying to lock in and, you know, kind of wanted to buy a house out here. So trying to figure that out, but just not knowing whether I'm not gonna be here for the next, you know, I was gonna be here this coming season anyway, but for the longer future. So just the feeling of being able to lock that in and know that I can just continue to keep growing within this organization is just a, it's a good feeling."

For Tippmann, as it is for almost any player in the NFL, knowing you have long-term security is one of the things they work hard for, and it's cool to hear him so honest about the stressful nature of not knowing a deal is going to get done.

It's the second extension the Jets gave to a former draft pick this summer, the other being running back Breece Hall.

There aren't many other players in line for extensions this offseason, but for now, fans can rest easy knowing they won't have to worry about seeing good, young players walk anytime soon.
