The New York Jets enter their Week 6 matchup with the New England Patriots looking for the signature win of the Aaron Glenn era in what would be one of the most important victories in recent team history (as low as that bar may be!).
The Jets have won one singular game in New England since their 28-21 victory over the Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round of the 2010-11 postseason over 15 years ago. That one win came in a meaningless Week 18 matchup two years ago in what turned out to be Bill Belichick's final career game.
So yes, that means the Patriots haven't won a meaningful game in Foxborough in over a decade and a half. Unfortunately, the odds may not be in their favor this week.
The Jets have ruled out four players for this week's game: running back Breece Hall (quad), wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger), left guard Dylan Parham (knee), and outside linebacker Joseph Ossai (ankle).
Three other players enter this game with questionable designations: safety Dane Belton (knee), tight end Kenyon Sadiq (concussion), and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle). The expectation is that all three will play in today's game.
As for the Patriots, cornerbacks Carlton Davis III (neck) and Karon Prunty (hamstring) have been ruled out, while a whopping seven players will carry questionable tags into Sunday's matchup.
WR A.J. Brown (ankle), backup offensive tackle Marcus Bryant (ankle), left tackle Will Campbell (knee), cornerback Channing Canada (hamstring), linebacker Christian Elliss (chest), running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle), and safety Craig Woodson (shoulder) are all listed as questionable.
Brown was activated off the injured reserve on Saturday and is expected to make his return on Sunday. Meanwhile, Campbell and Henderson are both trending toward playing, despite suffering injuries a week ago that were expected to sideline them for multiple weeks.
New England will also return star cornerback Christian Gonzalez in Week 6 after he missed the last two games with a shoulder injury.
Who are the official inactives for both the Jets and the Patriots today? We've got you covered.
Full inactives list for New York Jets in Week 6
- RB Breece Hall
- WR Adonai Mitchell
- OG Dylan Parham
- OLB Joseph Ossai
- CB Nahshon Wright
- DT Jack Heflin
The Jets will be without running back Breece Hall for a third consecutive game, as Braelon Allen will once again lead the team's backfield. Allen is coming off a career game against the Browns a week ago and will be spelled on occasion by Isaiah Davis.
Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell will miss his fourth game in a row after suffering a finger injury in practice over a month ago. Head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters last week that Mitchell had a "procedure" on his finger, but his return timetable remains uncertain.
Left guard Dylan Parham is out once again, as the Jets will turn to veteran Jordan Meredith as their starter. Kohl Levao is the lone backup interior offensive lineman on the roster.
Joseph Ossai returns to the inactive list after suffering an ankle injury in last week's game. Ossai has yet to record a pressure in three games with the Jets, but is clearly battling through multiple injuries. Nate Lynn is active and will make his NFL debut today.
Cornerback Nahshon Wright is a healthy scratch for another week. Wright remains the Jets' top backup outside cornerback, but he won't see the field unless one of the team's cornerbacks is injured, because he doesn't play on special teams.
Full inactives list for New England Patriots in Week 6
- CB Carlton Davis III
- CB Karon Prunty
- QB Behren Morton (emergency QB)
- CB Channing Canada
- OT Dametrious Crownover
- TE Tanner Arkin
The Patriots will be without starting cornerback Carlton Davis III for another week as he continues to rehab a neck injury. Christian Gonzalez will return from injury, but New England will still be forced to lean on the likes of nickel corner Marcus Jones and Charles Woods to fill in for Davis.
Backup cornerbacks Karon Prunty (hamstring) and Channing Canada (hamstring) are the only other injured inactives for New England. All other questionable players will play in today's game.
