The New York Jets have dealt with a lot of injuries to start the 2026 season, and it's lingered into October. Heading into their matchup with the New England Patriots, New York will be without several key starters in Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell, Dylan Parham, and Joseph Ossai.
It's not all bad, though. The Jets got good news from head coach Aaron Glenn at his Friday press conference when he announced that first-round draft picks Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. are full participants at Friday's practice and should be good to go for Week 6.
"Guys that will be practicing today in full is Kenyon Sadiq; he'll be finishing up his (concussion) protocol, Dane Belton, he'll be full, Omar (Cooper Jr.) will be full today, and Kiko (Mauigoa) will be back. It will be good to have those guys back."
While it's certainly positive to hear about the status of Dane Belton and Kiko Mauigoa, the real headliner here is Sadiq and Cooper, both of whom fans will be excited to see on the field together for the first time since Week 1.
New York Jets getting first-round rookies back is a boon for the offense
It's really positive to see Sadiq make his return so soon after his concussion. In Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns, the former Oregon standout took a nasty blow from ex-Jets linebacker Quincy Williams, fumbling the ball and knocking him out for the remainder of the game.
As soon as fans hear the term "concussion protocol," it almost feels like that's at least a guaranteed one-game absence. For the last few weeks, that has not applied to the Jets.
Nickel cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. suffered a concussion in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, but was able to make it back in time to play against the Browns last Sunday. It seems Sadiq is about to pull off the same feat.
Cooper will be making his Jets return for the first time since the season opener. For a wide receiver room that's really banged up, his presence will mean a lot for Geno Smith and company.
He should serve as a proper safety valve in the Jets' offense. In his debut against the Tennessee Titans, Cooper caught a short pass and scampered for 30 yards, setting up New York for their first touchdown of the season.
Especially with no Mitchell in the lineup, Cooper could be in line for a massive day in terms of targets.
