The NFL has officially leaked some matchups for the 2026 season, and the New York Jets Week 1 opponent has been revealed. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Jets will travel to play the Tennessee Titans to kick off the 2026 campaign.

After weeks of speculation, it's final, and this matchup is exactly what head coach Aaron Glenn needed to kick off the season. His first season in New York didn't go as planned, but the chance to take down former Jets head coach Robert Saleh would be the ideal way to start next season.

After Saleh was fired in 2024, many people around the league effectively blamed ownership for the roster's faults instead of putting the blame on Saleh. Not only that, but people around the league faulted New York as a whole for Saleh's flaws when he was the head coach.

It was basically everyone else's shortcomings, but not the coach's. For Glenn, going into Tennessee and defeating the Titans to start the season 1-0 would be huge. Not only for the roster but for the fanbase as a whole. Taking down the former head coach would give Glenn some extra points with Jets fans. And that's something that shouldn't go under the radar.

Jets' Aaron Glenn can make early strong statement with win over Titans in Week 1

There's a portion of the fanbase that doesn't believe in Glenn and thinks he's the right man for the job. Obviously, one game wouldn't flip the narrative completely, but after an offseason that was filled with positive change, this would push things in the right direction.

It's also worth mentioning that Jermaine Johnson, John Franklin-Myers, Michael Carter, Solomon Thomas, and Tony Adams are on the Titans. Taking down all these former Jets in one outing will certainly earn Glenn some bonus points.

Owner Woody Johnson will certainly want the Titans to walk away with a loss, considering how things ended with Saleh and the amount of former players now in Tennessee. In addition, players on the Jets roster who played under Saleh will have an extra pep in their step to beat their former coach. The NFL loves storylines to start the season, which is why they gave New York this matchup.

Glenn and Darren Mougey made plenty of moves this offseason to overturn this roster from the Saleh/Joe Douglas era. This game will give everyone a first look at how this new roster looks. Taking down the Titans will be a great way to start next season, and if New York handles business, it will give fans, New York, and Glenn a boost of confidence.
