New York Jets 2026 Schedule Rumors
Jets heavily rumored to play the Titans in Week 1
One matchup that has been heavily speculated as a possible Week 1 opponent for the Jets is the Tennessee Titans, although nothing has been confirmed at this time. The storyline appeal is rather obvious.
Tennessee is now led by former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and features several former Jets defenders, including Jermaine Johnson, John Franklin-Myers, Solomon Thomas, and Tony Adams. The revenge-game narratives practically write themselves.
Another previously floated possibility was the Buffalo Bills, but that now appears off the table after it was announced Buffalo will open its new stadium in Week 2 on Thursday Night Football against the Detroit Lions. That means the Bills will be on the road in Week 1 and cannot host the Jets.
The Jets will also not be playing the Kansas City Chiefs, who will face off with the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 1. That eliminates the possibility of a Justin Fields revenge game and confirms the Jets will begin the year on the road.
At this stage, the Titans feel like the most logical candidate from a storyline perspective, especially given the league’s recent tendency to prioritize narrative-driven openers. It feels increasingly inevitable that this revenge game will happen in Week 1.
*UPDATE: This rumor has been confirmed, as the Jets will officially play the Titans in Week 1.
Jets playing Dolphins in Week 1?
Rick DiPietro of ESPN New York reported on Wednesday that the Jets are expected to open the 2026 season on the road against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. DiPietro also noted that the Jets are rumored to host the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium in Week 2.
Nothing has been officially confirmed by the NFL as of now, but the report has quickly gained traction as schedule leaks continue to emerge ahead of the league’s full release on Thursday night.
*UPDATE: This rumor has been debunked, as the Jets will officially play the Titans in Week 1.
Two Jets AFC East matchups revealed?
According to the Twitter (formerly X) account NFL Nerd, which has accurately leaked multiple games ahead of the NFL’s official schedule release, the Jets are currently expected to host the Dolphins in Week 7 at 1 pm ET on October 25.
The account has emerged as one of the more reliable schedule leak sources over the last 24 hours, although nothing is official until the NFL formally announces the full schedule.
NFL Nerd is also reporting that the Jets will host the Buffalo Bills in Week 10 at 1 pm ET on November 15. If accurate, both AFC East matchups would give the Jets important midseason divisional games at MetLife Stadium.
Jets home opener versus Packers in Week 2?
NFL Nerd is also reporting that the Jets will host the Packers in Week 2 at 1 pm ET on September 20. With the Jets already confirmed to be opening the season on the road in Week 1, that would make the Packers matchup the team's 2026 home opener at MetLife Stadium.
The timing could work out favorably for the Jets as well, as Packers All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons is currently recovering from a torn ACL, and his early projected return timeline reportedly falls somewhere around Weeks 3 or 4.
And remember, as part of the Sauce Gardner trade, the Jets own whichever 2027 first-round pick is higher between Green Bay and Dallas, meaning a Jets upset win over the Packers could be doubly beneficial for Gang Green.
More Jets schedule leaks from NFL Nerd
That same NFL Nerd account is also reporting that the Jets will also travel to Chicago to take on Caleb Williams and the Bears in Week 4, play host to the Cleveland Browns in Week 5, host Fernando Mendoza and the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, and play at home against the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings in Weeks 16 and 17, respectively.
This means that the Jets will likely be on the road three of the first four weeks of the season and the final game of the year, making that Vikings matchup their last home game of 2026.
If accurate, it also means that the Jets will play at home at least four times between Weeks 5 and 10. All but one of the Jets' home games have been reported, with the Denver Broncos matchup serving as the lone exception at this time.
Jets rumored to play the Lions in Week 3
One Twitter insider account is claiming the Jets will travel to Detroit to take on the Lions in Week 3. This would set up a scenario where the Jets face the NFC North gauntlet of the Packers, Lions, and Bears in consecutive weeks from Week 2 to 4.
New York Jets 2026 Schedule Leaks
Jets will begin the season on the road
It was announced this week that the New York Giants will host the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL’s opening Sunday Night Football game of the 2026 season. As a result, it now appears highly likely that the Jets will begin the year on the road.
While there is still a slim possibility the Jets could be selected for the league’s opening Monday Night Football matchup, the Giants already occupying MetLife Stadium for the Sunday night opener makes a Week 1 home game increasingly unlikely for Gang Green.
The Jets opened the 2025 season with back-to-back home games against Pittsburgh and Buffalo, and they have started at home in three of the last four seasons. That streak now seems poised to end in 2026.
*Update: The Chiefs will face the Broncos in the first Monday Night Football game of the season, confirming that the Jets will begin the year on the road.
Jets will play the Titans in Week 1
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Thursday morning that the Jets will officially travel to Nashville to play Robert Saleh and the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. The Saleh bowl is official!
It felt inevitable that the NFL schedule-makers would choose this revenge-fueled matchup for Week 1, and now Saleh and the Titans are set to host the Jets to open the season. This will be a revenge game not just for Saleh, but also for players like Jermaine Johnson, John Franklin-Myers, Tony Adams, T'Vondre Sweat, and a few others.
