Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets have finally found their new offensive coordinator to replace Tanner Engstrand. On Wednesday morning, it was announced that Frank Reich will become the Jets' new offensive coordinator.

It was a long and bumpy search, which began with Reich popping up on the Jets' radar as a senior offensive assistant who would call plays while Engstrand stayed on the staff. Instead, out went Engstrand after one season and in came the veteran Reich.

The Jets have now filled both vacant coordinator positions, with Brian Duker landing the defensive coordinator job. On offense, Reich is now slotted in as one of the answers to arguably the Jets' two biggest offseason questions. The other comes at quarterback.

The Jets will have options to choose from in all areas, ranging from the draft to free agency and potential trades. One thing is clear, though: the Jets will add at least one veteran signal-caller to the room.

A veteran option that could be a perfect fit for the Jets after Reich's hiring is Jacoby Brissett.

Jets could trade for Jacoby Brissett after Frank Reich hiring

When looking at Frank Reich's track record through all of his stops in the NFL, it is clear what he wants in a quarterback. The veteran coach has a long history of working with tall pocket passers who have strong arms and can take hits.

A few names that fit this billing whom Reich has coached are Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Andrew Luck, and Matt Ryan. Standing at 6'4", 235 pounds, Jacoby Brissett also falls into this category of quarterbacks.

After being selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, Brissett was traded to the Colts before his second season began in 2017. From there, Brissett spent four seasons in Indianapolis, with three of those coming when Reich was at the helm.

In his lone season as the full-time starter under Reich in 2019, Brissett completed 60.8% of his passes for 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Reich, Brissett, and the Colts finished 7-9 on the season.

While those numbers and the team's success weren't anything special, Brissett was competent at the position in Reich's system and has continued to be that way through his various stops in the NFL.

The 33-year-old quarterback has since spent time with the Dolphins, Browns, Commanders, Patriots again, and in 2025 with the Arizona Cardinals. With Kyler Murray starting just five games due to a foot injury, Brissett was called upon to start 12 games last season, and didn't disappoint with his personal performance.

In 12 starts, the NC State product completed 65.1% of his passes for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Despite going just 1-11 in the 12 starts, Brissett finished inside the top-15 among quarterbacks in yards and touchdowns. Not bad for a veteran backup quarterback.

The talk around the Jets has pointed to Kyler Murray being the Cardinals quarterback whom Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey target as their bridge. However, Brissett is now a name that needs to be considered as a trade target coming from the Cardinals.

Murray comes with his fair share of concerns, headlined by his inability to stay healthy and questions about the former number one overall pick's work ethic. While Brissett has his flaws, too, his contract and connection with Reich create a compelling case to bring the veteran signal caller to Florham Park.
