The New York Jets have made it official. After weeks of speculation surrounding the team's offensive coordinator vacancy, the Jets have hired longtime NFL head coach Frank Reich to be Tanner Engstrand's replacement.

Reich has been rumored as a Jets target for weeks, dating back to a time when Engstrand was still with the organization. The Jets were originally eyeing Reich as a veteran assistant to aid their now-former offensive coordinator before ultimately deciding to part ways with Engstrand altogether.

The Jets narrowed their offensive coordinator search down to three candidates who interviewed in person this week: Reich, Greg Roman, and Darrell Bevell. In the end, the Jets went with the expected choice.

Reich joins a revamped Jets coaching staff that promises to feature a host of new faces, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. He will be given full authority to make any changes he sees fit.

A former NFL quarterback who actually crossed paths with Glenn on the Jets in 1996, Reich rose to prominence as an offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles, helping lead the team to a victory in Super Bowl LI.

He was soon after hired by the Indianapolis Colts to be their new offensive coordinator, a role where he managed to find considerable success. Reich made the playoffs in two of his first four seasons with the team before he was unceremoniously fired midway through the 2022 season.

The former Bills quarterback latched on with the Carolina Panthers as their head coach for 2023 but was fired after just 11 games following a disastrous 1-10 start. That brief, tumultuous tenure marked his last time on an NFL coaching staff.

Reich spent the 2025 season as the interim head coach at Stanford, leading the Cardinal to a 4-8 record before he was ultimately replaced. Now, he's found an NFL lifeline as Glenn's hand-picked offensive coordinator.

It will be interesting to see if the Jets hire either Roman or Bevell — or both — to senior assistant roles on Reich's staff. The team has reportedly been flirting with the idea of potentially hiring all three.

Either way, Frank Reich is the Jets' new offensive coordinator. Glenn is hoping that his old Jets teammate can help save his job.
