Jets could send Bills fans into a downward spiral at pick No. 16

Could the Jets steal this prospect right out from under their AFC East rival?

It's easier to name the teams that don't need a wide receiver heading into the 2026 NFL Draft than it is to name the ones that do, and the New York Jets are no exception.

Every receiver-needy team will be watching closely during the first half of Thursday night's draft, seeing exactly where the top three prospects end up. Ohio State's Carnell Tate, Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, and USC's Makai Lemon are the big prizes.

For teams that won't have the luxury of selecting the big three, there are still plenty of attractive secondary options. Those franchises in the back half of the first round will be hoping prospects like Washington's Denzel Boston or Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr. make it to them.

With the way the Jets are positioned at No. 16, they may just have the opportunity to get the pick of the litter of those secondary wide receiver prospects, and New York could stick it to a pass-catcher-starved division rival.

Jets could steal Bills' perfect WR fit out from under them in 2026 NFL Draft

BuffaLowDown's Brandon Ray believes Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr. could be the ideal fit for the Buffalo Bills, but the problem is, the Jets have the chance to take him off the board before they even have the chance to consider it.

"Omar Cooper Jr., who is coming off winning a national championship with Indiana, might be the most realistic receiving option that the Bills have available in the first round. He brings great physicality to his game, and the Bills would have great versatility with him out to the side and in the backfield. He might be the best fit for Joe Brady's offense that no one is talking about."

Buffalo needs help at wide receiver. Despite trading for DJ Moore this offseason, he and Khalil Shakir aren't going to be enough if the Bills want to contend for a Super Bowl.

General manager Brandon Beane is likely hoping to make another addition to the room at pick No. 26, but unfortunately for his team, there's a really good chance Cooper is off the board, taken by their division rival.

The Jets are one of those teams hoping for the big three receivers to fall to them, but as previously mentioned, there is one too many teams licking their chops at the prospect of selecting Tate, Tyson, and Lemon.

If New York is dead set on adding a wide receiver to their ranks, Cooper is the only other option that makes some iota of sense at No. 16. Some may consider him a reach, but he would be the best available prospect at that draft slot.

Of course, the big draw is adding a new (hopeful) starting wide receiver to their ranks. The added sweetener? Stealing a top target from a hated division rival.
