The New York Jets have found it very hard to get some of their best and brightest high up on the NFL Top 100. Even elite players like Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Quinnen Williams were either omitted from the list or not as high as their talent merits. The Jets' free agency push to bring in more top talent led to them signing a Top 100 fixture in Demario Davis.
After a brief one-season hiatus from this annual exercise, Davis managed to sneak back in and end up ranked 95th overall on the Top 100. Davis came in just ahead of his old teammate, Cam Jordan, who started this whole exercise off by coming in at 100th overall. Davis being ranked in this elite club at age 37 speaks to his unusual longevity and quality at the linebacker spot.
It remains to be seen if getting players ranked this high will translate into wins, or if the Jets will have any other dynamic stars in the Top 100, but getting Davis in there is a sign that the Jets' much-maligned linebacker room and overall defense as a unit will be in a much better position.
Jets LB Demario Davis makes appearance in NFL's Top 100
2026 will mark the beginning of Davis' third stint with the Jets. Davis originally departed for the Cleveland Browns at the end of his rookie contract, but returned to the Jets in a trade that sent draft bust Calvin Pryor to Cleveland. Davis departed for the New Orleans Saints, where he stepped on the gas.
Davis made five consecutive All-Pro teams in New Orleans, and Pro Football Focus graded him as one of the best linebackers in the league at age 36 last season despite some poor performance around him. Davis will now try to bring his bend of all-around game and veteran leadership to a needy Jets team.
The hope is that Davis could be for this defense what CJ Mosley was to Robert Saleh. With Jamien Sherwood putting the Robin tights back on after one year as Batman, Davis should be able to provide the boost this team has been dying for after suffering through a painful 2025 season.
Davis is quietly building one of the best Jets careers in recent history, and replicating his Saints production may have as big an impact on the team's overall outlook as possible in the 2026 season.
