Jets back to irrelevancy after Aaron Rodgers with small slate of primetime games

The New York Jets are preparing for a much more low-key start to the 2025 season, as the loss of Aaron Rodgers and move to more of a rebuild under Aaron Glenn has essentially made them ratings poison for the NFL schedule makers. The Jets have a comparatively paltry number of standalone games this season.

The Jets only have three games that could be classed as "primetime" games. Even among that group, the selection the Jets received isn't too enticing. If they didn't play in New York, there's a very good chance that they would receive the fewest primetime games of any team in the NFL.

The Jets will begin their primetime slate on the road against the Miami Dolphins in what will be the earlier part of a Monday Night Football doubleheader. New York will travel to London for a 2024 rematch against the Denver Broncos before a Week 11 Thursday Night matchup against the rival New England Patriots.

Jets land three uninspiring primetime games in 2025 schedule

After past seasons in which the Jets went almost two months of time in a row without a traditional 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time kickoff, some fans might be a bit happier that their favorite team won't get smacked around by superior opponents with the prying eyes of the nation watching on.

Miami and New England project to be average teams in the AFC East so Jets might actually be able to put together a worthwhile game against. Denver was shut down offensively last year by the Jets, but their Patrick Surtain-led defense could be difficult for new starting QB Justin Fields to overcome.

The Steelers, meanwhile, will be in for a robust primetime boost in addition to their usual slate of games in the spotlight. Even as he prepares to turn 42, Rodgers is still a major boost for TV ratings. Without him, or a projected winning roster, the Jets will be cast aside back to the 1:00 p.m. slate.

After hearing a few Joe Buck, Mike Tirico, and Al Michaels games in the last few years, Jets fans will likely be returning to the familiar voices of Spero Dedes and Kevin Harlan for most of Glenn's first season with the team. Hopefully, this leads to more wins and fewer crushing embarrassments in front of everyone.
