The offensive line-needy New England Patriots had the chance to select either LSU left tackle Will Campbell or Missouri right tackle Armand Membou with the No. 4 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Mike Vrabel chose Campbell, while Membou slid to Aaron Glenn, Darren Mougey, and the New York Jets at No. 7 overall.
Jets fans will likely be watching the beginning of Campbell's career with great interest, as they could take a victory lap if Membou turns out to be the better prospect. So far, Membou has been rock-solid, while Campbell is showing some of the concerns that other teams had about him.
Campbell started off Patriots training camp hot, reportedly holding his own against emerging pass rusher Keion White. Things started to take a turn for the worse when he was paired against former first-round bust K'Lavon Chaisson, as Campbell's limitations began to pop up.
Chaisson managed to get past Campbell for what would have been two sacks while adding another pressure. Fifth-round pick Bradyn Swinson, a former LSU teammate Campbell is familiar with, has also beaten him in one-on-one reps. Membou, meanwhile, has been as solid as they come in training camp.
Jets fans will like Armand Membou outperforming Patriots' Will Campbell at training camp
Campbell routinely graded out as one of the best pass blockers in the SEC, but there are some concerns about his ability to stick at left tackle in the NFL. With historically short arms for the tackle position and slightly above-average workout numbers, many wondered if Campbell would be better served kicking inside to guard.
The Patriots seem undeterred by those concerns, putting Campbell at left tackle almost immediately. While rookies are always going to have growing pains in the NFL, a franchise left tackle getting roasted by a pass rusher who has 10 sacks in five seasons is not ideal.
Membou, meanwhile, has been the talk of the town at Jets training camp. Membou has had some exemplary results going up against 10.5 sack man Will McDonald in practice, all while earning some praise from Quinnen Williams for his raw strength and advanced technique for a rookie.
While both Membou and Campbell will likely have very long careers for their respective teams, it would be quite a refreshing change of pace if the Jets ended up with the superior of the two players when the Patriots had a chance to select the Mizzou star.
