While it's hard to get excited about the performance of a rookie right tackle in a preseason practice schedule that has mostly consisted of padless work, New York Jets No. 7 overall pick Armand Membou appears to look every bit like the player this team thought he would be coming out of Missouri.

Membou has primarily been sharpening his skills against third-year pass rusher Will McDonald, who is trying to add a bit more power after showing his speed last season. The pair have been trading wins, and Membou has his fair share of positive reps to his name.

Membou has had a few reps that forced him to take on All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The Jets' star defender has seen quite a few rookie offensive linemen in his time, and he is already blown away by how well Membou has acclimated himself.

In an interview with Kay Adams, Williams said that Membou has already established himself as one of the strongest players on the team and added that he is "lightyears ahead" of many of the other rookie linemen he has played against.

Jets DT Quinnen Williams heaps praise on Armand Membou

Membou is a part of a very young, very talented Jets offensive line. Of the five projected starters, which includes back-to-back first-round picks in Membou and left tackle Olu Fashanu, left guard John Simpson is the only one older than 26 years old and the only player who is not on his rookie deal.

Membou, however, has the highest ceiling out of all five of these players. Even if Patriots No. 4 overall pick Will Campbell was available when the Jets picked, there's a very good chance that the Jets would have chosen Membou. Even with tight end Tyler Warren available, Membou was the pick.

Membou profiled as a tremendous run-blocker who will likely be better served on a team like the Jets that plans to run the ball as much as possible, but his tremendous testing times at his pre-draft workouts suggest that he has the athleticism needed to become a first-rate pass protector at the NFL level.

Membou will be thrown a very difficult test in his first-ever NFL game, as he will need to take on a Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line that includes T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, and Alex Highsmith, all trying to pressure Justin Fields. Practice suggests that he should be up to the task.
