NY Jets fans have spent weeks sharing their thoughts on who should be the team’s next head coach. Now, the players are weighing in too.

Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson became the latest player to publicly back a head coach candidate on social media this week. Johnson shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) encouraging fans to repost if they believe Aaron Glenn should be the Jets’ next head coach.

Johnson isn't the first Jets player to express his support for Glenn on social media. Jets star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams issued a similar public endorsement on Instagram a week ago.

The Jets are still deliberating on their head coach preference and will likely hire a general manager candidate before making any firm decisions, but at this stage, it seems obvious who the players in the locker room support.

NY Jets player want their team to hire Aaron Glenn

Glenn is widely seen as one of the top candidates for the Jets' head coach job. Reports have suggested that Glenn is near the top of the team's list of preferred candidates, and the feeling appears to be mutual.

Brian Costello of the New York Post reported this week that Glenn would prefer to take the Jets' job over other positions if offered the role. The New Orleans Saints are expected to make a strong push for the former NFL cornerback while he's in the mix for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders jobs as well.

Glenn is one of the most coveted candidates on the open market, and it's easy to see why. The former three-time Pro Bowl cornerback has garnered a stellar reputation as a coach with the Detroit Lions, helping transform the organization's culture alongside head coach Dan Campbell.

Despite injuries to the likes of Aidan Hutchinson, Alex Anzalone, Alim McNeill, and Carlton Davis β€” among many other notable defensive players β€” Glenn has stabilized the Lions' defense and overachieved with lesser personnel.

He's also highly regarded as a leader and has been a part of two organizational culture overhauls, first as a player under Bill Parcells with the Jets and later as a coach with the Lions. His resume speaks for itself.

The Jets are scouring the market and leaving no stone unturned in their search for a new head coach. The team has interviewed a whopping 16 candidates at the time of writing and they still aren't done with their first round of interviews.

Nonetheless, Glenn is seen as one of the obvious favorites for a reason. He has deep ties to the organization dating back to his days as a player and later a personnel scout with the Jets. He has a lot of fans in that building β€” both in the front office and seemingly in the locker room.

If Quinnen Williams and Jermaine Johnson have it their way, Aaron Glenn will be the next Jets head coach. It's safe to say many fans probably agree with that sentiment.
