Is Davante Adams playing tonight? Latest update on his NY Jets debut
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets flirted with the idea of a Davante Adams trade ever since the team initially acquired Aaron Rodgers in the 2023 offseason. Following over a year of rumors and speculation, the Jets finally made it happen.
The Jets sent a conditional third-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Adams this past week, reuniting him with his longtime quarterback in Florham Park. Rodgers and Adams hope to salvage a Jets team that has had a rocky start to the 2024 season.
Robert Saleh has been fired and the Jets sit at 2-4 through six games despite possessing a positive point differential. The Jets have struggled to close out tight games and the hope is that Adams will help fix that.
Adams remains one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and should provide an instant boost to the Jets' offense. But how instant are we talking? When will Adams make his Jets debut?
Is Davante Adams playing tonight?
Adams will make his Jets debut in tonight's Week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football. The six-time Pro Bowler missed the last three games with a hamstring injury but was a full participant in practice all week after his hamstring magically healed.
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich told reporters that Adams is expected to receive a full workload in tonight's game. He will have no limitations and is expected to immediately step in as the Jets' WR1.
Adams joins a talented wide receiver room that also features the likes of Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Mike Williams. Williams has been the subject of trade rumors and appears to be on his way out, but he will play at least one more game for the Jets in Week 7.
Williams' struggles to get on the same page with Rodgers are part of the reason for his expected departure, but that shouldn't be an issue with Adams. Adams has hauled in 622 catches for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns in 108 games with Rodgers as his quarterback.
The Jets are hoping to put an end to the three-game losing streak they've mounted over the last few weeks. Tonight's game is a must-win for the Jets, and they'll have their new star wide receiver to help them accomplish that goal.
