Geno Smith & Garrett Wilson heap generational praise on hopeful 2027 Jets teammate

There's plenty of reason to be excited about the 2026 New York Jets, thanks to an offseason that saw Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey overhaul a good majority of the roster and add both young and veteran talent in the draft and free agency.

But if we could pull your attention away from the present and to the future just for a moment, there are arguably even more reasons to be excited about the future of football in New York. The 2027 NFL Draft class is expected to be a generational one, and the Jets are the only team in football scheduled to have three first-round picks at their disposal come next April.

There will be a nauseating amount of talk about quarterback prospects in the winter, and for good reason. Unless Cade Klubnik finds his way onto the field in 2026 and lights the NFL on fire with his play, the Jets are almost guaranteed to take a shot on a collegiate signal caller in 2027.

But that's just one draft pick. There are some other generational talents that are expected to be available next spring, such as Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Will the 20-year-old phenom live up to the lofty expectations laid out in front of him?

In an interview with NFL insider Jordan Schultz and ex-Jet Keyshawn Johnson, Geno Smith and Garrett Wilson were asked about Smith and his potential as a wide receiver in the pros.

It should be noted that both Wilson and Smith could be considered biased. The Jets' current WR1 is an Ohio State alumnus, and Smith, believe it or not, is Jeremiah's cousin!

"I said it before he ever played a snap in college football that he was going to be the best ever, and I really believe that. I watched him play since he was 9-10 years old. I watched him grow up." Smith told Schultz and Johnson. "I just remember my grandma telling me, like, 'He's just like you. He's determined.' And to me, I know he's got the physical tools and all the gifts, but his work ethic and the way that he goes about his business is phenomenal, man."

Geno wasn't the only one to praise Smith, though, as Wilson chimed in, calling the Ohio State star a "man among boys" when he steps on the field for the Buckeyes. Considering the amount of NFL talent both players have seen in their respective careers, the praise means a lot.

The Jets, with three first-round draft choices in next April's draft, will theoretically have the chance to target any prospect they want. They could stand pat, move up or down the board, and have a crack at three of their favorite prospects in the top 32 in 2027.

Smith, after another likely monster season with Ohio State, will surely be one of the first names off the board next spring. If he's in the Jets' grasp, they should absolutely consider taking him.
