Garrett Wilson understands the gravity of Jets-Patriots matchup

Foxborough, Massachusetts, is a place where good New York Jets memories are few and far between. The New England Patriots dominated the Jets through the Tom Brady era, and that couldn't be truer than in their home building.

This week, New York has a shot to get back to .500. A win on Sunday would have them at 3-3, a place not even the most optimistic of Jets fans had them.

The die-hard faithful can take solace in the fact that their star wide receiver, Garrett Wilson, knows the gravity of the situation.

New York Jets have less than ideal history in New England

Wilson is correct; this is a massive game for the Jets, and they will need to be ready to go in order to pull off the upset win. History says it's unlikely with the Jets' recent record up in New England.

Since the turn of the millennium, Gang Green has only won up in New England seven times. They are 7-21 in New England since 2000, and three of those wins came in consecutive years from 2000 through 2002. So really, it's 4-21 in their last 25 attempts up there.

Of those four wins, they are all pretty memorable. You have Chad Pennington and the 2006 Jets going up there and winning a sloppy game in the rain. The Patriots were so mad after that one that they decided to pull up the grass field midseason and put in turf.

Then came 2008, when the Brett Favre Jets beat the Matt Cassel-led Patriots on Thursday Night Football. Leon Washington returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and Jay Feely hit the game-winning field goal in overtime to give the Jets a 34-31 win.

2010 is the most famous one. In the regular season, the Jets got blown out 45-3 on Monday Night Football. Just a few weeks later, the two teams met up in the playoffs, and this time the sixth-seed Jets pulled off an impressive 28-21 win, sending themselves back to the AFC Championship Game.

They wouldn't win another game up there until the final week of the 2023 season. Bill Belichick's last game in New England was a 17-3 Jets win. Breece Hall had 37 carries for 178 yards and a score in that game.

The point of all of this? It's a really difficult place to play for this football team. It's unlikely that they win on Sunday, but if Wilson is right and this team can pull off a major upset, certainly the fans would buy back into what Aaron Glenn is doing with this team.
