Garrett Wilson gave Jets teammate Adonai Mitchell an explosive comparison

For the first time in a long time, New York Jets fans should feel a certain level of excitement about the array of offensive weaponry the team has at its disposal.

Garrett Wilson, as always, is the crown jewel, but he finally has a supporting cast that will force opposing defenses to spread their attention around and not zero in on WR1.

New York has two tight ends taken with premier draft picks over the last two years in Mason Taylor and Kenyon Sadiq. The running back room feels fairly loaded as well, with Breece Hall leading the way while Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis serve as complementary backs.

Even the wide receiver position has depth like never before. Lining up across from Wilson will be players like Omar Cooper Jr., Tim Patrick, and, of course, tantalizing young wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.

At the start of training camp, Wilson was asked about Mitchell and what it would be like playing with him in 2026. Unfortunately, neither player had the chance to suit up alongside each other last season thanks to injuries.

"AD's (Mitchell) one of those guys, man. It's just a ticking time bomb with him... It's been fun to watch for me and just be his teammate and come back to the huddle after each play and dap it up. I think now it just comes down to we gotta go put in a good rest of this training camp and then whenever Sunday comes, when our number's called, let's do what we've been doing. Let's make plays, let's make plays on the outside, let's do it when the world is watching."

It's high praise from Wilson, and the explosive comparison should mean a lot to a player like Mitchell. Heading into 2026, he's penciled in as the Jets' WR2 after a positive offseason program.

Serving as the Jets' interim leading receiver in 2025, Mitchell hauled in 24 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns, numbers that should only improve with better quarterback play and more talent around him.

As long as Geno Smith is able to deliver the ball consistently to his pass catchers, Mitchell should be in line for an explosive season, and even Wilson's numbers should benefit from that.
