The New York Jets simply needed to crush the first round of the NFL Draft, given the amount of draft capital at their disposal. They held the No. 2 and No. 16 selections, which would give them the chance to draft a pass rusher and an offensive playmaker.

With the second pick, the Jets drafted Texas Tech pass rusher David Bailey, giving them a player who can make an immediate impact. Then, with the 16th selection, the Jets drafted Oregon play-making tight end Kenyon Sadiq. To cap off the night, the Jets traded back into the first round, securing the 30th overall pick from the San Francisco 49ers to draft Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.

So on the opening night of the draft, the Jets got a pass rusher to help out head coach Aaron Glenn, and two pass catchers to help out starting quarterback Geno Smith. It was a successful night for the Jets, one where fans can feel some promise. They aren't the only ones ecstatic about the draft.

Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson took to social media to express how excited he was about all three prospects joining the team.

For the most part, every team will improve during the NFL Draft, especially in the first round. But for the Jets, they have become a better team on paper with the additions of Bailey, Sadiq, and Cooper.

It's no secret that the Jets needed to add a pass rusher. But it was a matter of who they wanted. While Bailey does not have as high an upside as Ohio State's Arvell Reese, who was drafted by the Giants fifth overall, he is still going to be a good player for the Jets.

This season, the Jets only registered 26 sacks, second-least in the entire NFL. With Bailey, they bring in a player who has never recorded fewer than six sacks in a season. Let's not forget that in his line season with Texas Tech, Bailey led all FBS players with 14.5 sacks, and led the Big 12 with 19.5 tackles for loss.

When looking at the Jets' passing offense, it was severely lacking on paper behind Wilson. There is still an expectation that Adonai Mitchell could develop into a solid starting option, but there still wasn't enough. Now, they add two solid pass-catchers.

Sadiq is coming off a great season, where he recorded 51 catches for 560 yards and eight touchdowns. Now, he will pair with Mason Taylor as a one-two punch at the tight end position.

As for Cooper, he is coming off of an incredible season, where he played a role in the Indiana Hoosiers winning the CFP National Championship. His biggest play came on a clutch, go-ahead touchdown catch against Penn State. In 16 games, Cooper recorded 69 catches for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns. The big play factor that Cooper possesses will be an immediate plus for the Jets.

For the Jets, winning the draft is fine and all, but they and the fan base would like to win some games. After all, Wilson has not been to the playoffs once since joining the Jets in 2022. The roster has improved on the first night of the draft, with the chance to get even better after Rounds 2-7.
