Former NY Jets WR says he's hoping for a reunion in free agency

A reunion in the making?

The New York Jets are looking to reshape much of their roster this offseason, and perhaps no position group needs more help than wide receiver. The team's wide receiver room is as barren as any position on the roster at the moment.

Perhaps a familiar face could help solve the team's wide receiver woes. During a recent appearance on CBS Sports, former Jets wide receiver Robbie Chosen (formerly Robby Anderson) was asked if there were any teams in particular he was eyeing in free agency.

Chosen wasted little time insisting that he'd love to return to the place his NFL career started: Florham Park. The former Jets standout claimed it would be "nostalgic" to run it back with New York in 2025.

"I’m open to every team. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m too good for any team. I’m just hoping for a great opportunity, but the Jets would mean a lot. My career started there, and the culture that I know that they’re building and everything. Not to single any team out, but that would be special. It would be nostalgic."

The Jets signed former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Tyler Johnson on Saturday morning, finally adding a new weapon to their receiving corps. It's safe to say there's still work to be done, however.

Robbie Chosen Anderson wants to return to the NY Jets

Chosen was originally signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2016. The former Temple standout would spend the first four years of his career with the Jets, with his best season coming in 2017 when he finished with 63 catches for 941 yards and seven touchdowns.

During some of the Jets' darkest offensive struggles, Chosen was a rare bright spot, providing a legitimate deep threat to stretch the field and keep defenses honest. His speed added a much-needed downfield element to the offense.

Chosen found success after leaving the Jets, posting his first and only 1,000-yard campaign with the Carolina Panthers in 2020 before his career took a downturn. In fact, it was a run-in with new Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks that ended his tenure in Carolina.

Wilks, who was then serving as the Panthers' interim head coach, kicked Chosen out of a Week 6 game after an altercation with one of his assistant coaches. He wouldn't play another game for the Panthers.

Chosen has since bounced around the NFL, most recently spending time with the Miami Dolphins. He appeared in just two games in 2024, catching one pass for five yards.

The Jets will probably hope to add more significant wide receiver help before the start of the season. The team's wide receiver depth chart currently features the likes of Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Malachi Corley, the aforementioned Tyler Johnson, and Xavier Gipson. Lazard remains a cut candidate.

Signing Chosen would make for a fun reunion story, but it probably wouldn't be the best way to upgrade at this stage. The Jets need more than nostalgia — they need legitimate solutions.
