Former NY Jets draft busts kicks Robert Saleh while he's down after firing
The NY Jets shocked the NFL world when they decided to fire head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the 2024 season. Saleh was in his fourth season as the Jets head coach before the team made the puzzling decision to relieve him of his duties.
The Jets have continued to struggle despite Aaron Rodgers returning to the starting lineup but it's not like the team was in the cellar of the AFC East. They were playing for first place in the division on Monday Night Football next week against the Bills, so yes, this is a shocking development.
Someone who's clearly having fun with the news is former Jets draft bust Mekhi Becton, who posted a meme after the news of Saleh's firing surfaced. Becton then promptly deleted the post.
The meme is about a man who showed up to one of his biggest haters' funeral to make sure he was truly dead. If that isn't telling about how Becton feels about Saleh, I don't know what is.
Mekhi Becton trolls Robert Saleh following surprise NY Jets firing
Becton was the Jets' first-round pick in 2020 and struggled to stay healthy during his time with the organization. Even when he was on the field, he struggled to protect the quarterback, surrendering a league-leading 12 sacks in 2023.
The Jets moved on from Becton in the offseason and he's now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. It's not surprising that he'd have something snarky to say about Saleh's firing considering he had some issues with the Jets coaching staff during his time with the team.
Becton was not happy with Saleh and the coaching staff for moving him from his preferred position of left tackle over to right tackle. When Becton injured his knee playing his new position, he blamed it on the coaching staff.
“It made no sense to put me at right tackle,” Becton said, per Newsday. “I hurt my right knee. That’s going to be the knee I put the most pressure on [while backpedaling in pass protection]. I explained it [to the coaches], but no one cared.”
Now Saleh is fired and Becton is having fun laughing at his expense while he's with a new organization. The Jets will now roll with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as their interim head coach and everyone else on staff will remain in their respective roles.
