New York Jets running back Breece Hall is expected to be a focal point of the offense this upcoming season.
Not that he hasn't already been over the last four years of his NFL career, but with a new extension paying him top-of-the-line running back money, he's going to get his touches, and in a multitude of different ways.
For some reason, Hall's talents have never been maximized to the best of their ability. Sure, he'll rack up double-digit carries in most games, but one of the Iowa State product's best attributes is his ability to produce in the passing game, and previous Jets offensive coordinators have ignored it.
Leger Douzable, an ex-Jets defensive end and current NFL analyst, believes new offensive coordinator Frank Reich is set to use Hall like he hasn't been used before, and it could add another level to New York's offense.
Leger Douzable believes Breece Hall is primed for a career year in the passing game
In an appearance on The Official Jets Podcast with Eric Allen, Douzable broke down what makes Hall such a great player and the underutilized aspects of his game.
"It's been stop Breece Hall, like that's the defensive game plan, stop Breece Hall, and he's still been productive...That shows you that he's not just good running the ball in between the tackles, he's a real asset catching the ball out of the backfield. I think they should lean into that a little bit more. If you're Frank Reich, you've seen his ability on tape to really be a mismatch when you spread him out."Leger Douzable
There's no doubt that Hall has been a threat in the passing game since he stepped into the league in 2022. The problem has been his lack of creative usage by former Jets offensive coordinators.
Over his four-year career, the former second-round pick has hauled in 188 receptions for 1,642 yards, catching nine touchdowns.
Hall has showcased his home-run hitting ability in the ground game and pass game, once taking a screen pass 79 yards in his rookie season.
When Reich was the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Jonathan Taylor, not typically known as a pass-catching back, saw plenty of use in the passing game. In 2021, he saw a yards per catch average of nine yards. Imagine what Reich will be able to do with Hall?
Hopefully, the Jets' new offensive coordinator doesn't make the same mistake previous Jets play callers have made, and that's not getting the most out of Hall in the passing game.
