The New York Jets used to be a team built on the success of the ground game.
From Curtis Martin in the early to mid 2000's, to Rex Ryan's ground-and-pound attack in 2009 and 2010, New York had a real identity for running the football.
Then, there was a lull over the next decade or so, with the most prolific running back seasons coming from the likes of Chris Ivory in 2015. It wasn't until Breece Hall that the Jets were able to boast about a special talent in their backfield.
Hall has had an up-and-down four-year career in New York. The talent is certainly there, but the production hasn't always been. It's not all on the 2022 second-round pick; it's not his fault that there isn't a consistent passing attack to take the pressure off of him.
But in 2026, Hall has the chance to do something no Jets running back has done since Martin in 2004, and that's win the NFL's rushing title.
Breece Hall could win his first career rushing title in 2026, and Jets' first since 2004
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton believes Hall is a contender to win the NFL rushing title in 2026, thanks to a new and improved supporting cast and Frank Reich scheming it up from the sideline.
"The Jets' new offensive coordinator, Frank Reich, had a rushing champion lead his offense in 2021, when Jonathan Taylor ran for 1,811 yards. Since 2017, the 64-year-old play-caller has fielded three top-seven ground attacks in seven seasons. "Moe Moton
If Reich can bring over the rushing attack he had when he was the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Hall being the NFL's rushing leader isn't just a pipe dream; it could be a reality.
In Hall's first four years with the Jets, he hasn't had the luxury of a good passing attack that would take opposing defenders out of the box. More often than not, especially this past season, he was New York's sole offensive threat.
Add in the fact that the Jets have two potential Pro Bowlers bookending both tackle spots in Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, a plus-starter at guard in Joe Tippmann, and Hall has some road-graters to run behind.
Buffalo Bills running back James Cook led the NFL last season with 1,621 yards rushing. If Hall can get to 1,700 in 2026, he may have a good chance at winning that belt and becoming the first Jets back since franchise legend Curtis Martin to do it.
