Breece Hall says what every Jets fan wants to hear despite contract extension

Darren Mougey has been doing something throughout his young tenure as New York Jets general manager that his predecessors failed to do, and that's rewarding in-house players with lucrative contract extensions.

It started last summer with Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, and continued into the season with Jeremy Ruckert and Josh Myers.

2026 has been no different, as Mougey made sure to bring back Breece Hall and Joe Tippmann (who were set to enter the season on expiring deals) are now under contract with the Jets for the foreseeable future.

But just because a player receives an extension doesn't mean the job is finished. Players still should be looking to prove their worth every season, and it seems like Hall has a pretty good grasp on what he's facing in 2026 despite his new contract.

Speaking with reporters, Hall described what it's like coming into training camp with contractual security, something he hasn't experienced yet throughout his young NFL career.

"I love my deal, but I also feel it makes me more hungry to keep proving that I am who I say I am. And, you know, I feel like it's making me want to do more than what I've done in the past, obviously. You know, like I said, I feel like I have all the talent and capabilities to do certain things in this league, but I haven't always been in the position. I feel like we're finally getting in ourselves in position for me and Garrett (Wilson) to really, you know, flourish and spread our wings so we can do what we know we can do."

Clearly, Hall isn't satisfied with just getting his bag. He wants to start putting up the gaudy numbers he and Jets fans know he's capable of.

The former second-round draft pick only just became a 1,000-yard rusher for the first time in his career this past season, but as Hall points out, that isn't necessarily due to his own shortcomings.

Hall has been dealt a rough hand throughout his four-year career. Whether it's poor run blocking or non-existent quarterback play that allows defenses to stack the box, there are several layers to the running back's lackluster stats in 56 career games.

But this year could be the start of something different for Hall and other Jets players like Garrett Wilson. With (hopeful) improved coaching and a better supporting cast, Hall may just exceed his current contract.
