New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey locked up one of the few remaining Joe Douglas holdovers on the roster, signing running back Breece Hall to a three-year contract extension worth just shy of $46 million.

Hall has not only been overwhelmingly positive when asked about the direction this team is heading, but he has also managed to get in one last little shot at Joe Douglas for not putting him in a spot that other running backs would envy.

Hall said that he hasn't always been put in an "ideal situation" for a running back, which has prevented him from showing off his skills to their fullest potential. Hall was very complimentary of both Mougey and Glenn, all while taking a little shot at Douglas in the process.

Breece Hall says old Jets teams didn't put him in a good situation

Let's look at Hall's four seasons in the NFL. His rookie year in 2022 was cut short due to injury. The 2023 season saw him running into stacked box after stacked box following Aaron Rodgers' injury and Zach Wilson's unwatchable play. The offensive line was a mess, as they were pulling players off practice squads often.

In 2024, Hall played in a Rodgers-led offense with a very simplistic running game that didn't give him the volume of attempts he needed to succeed. Last year, Justin Fields was so pathetic that teams knew all they had to do to slow the Jets down was keep Hall contained and let Fields self-destruct.

The Jets' addition of Geno Smith may not produce a winning season, but it should make their passing game much more effective. With first-round rookies Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. joining Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell, and Mason Taylor, the passing game can complement Breece in the backfield.

The offensive line remains perhaps the strongest unit on the team, as swapping John Simpson for Dylan Parham seems like an upgrade, and young tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou have their arrows pointing upward. Hall finds him in the best situation for his production he's had in his young career.

The jury is still out on Glenn and Mougey as roster builders, but they seem to be able to put together a well-rounded offense that is in line with modern trends. That will benefit Hall, who likely wouldn't have signed if he didn't believe in the project the Jets are building.
