Throughout the first four years of his career, New York Jets fans have always had an affinity for running back Breece Hall. After all, he's arguably one of the most talented running backs to grace the franchise since team legend Curtis Martin.
Despite concerns that he may have played his last snap for the Green & White this past season, the Jets were able to re-sign their star running back to a three-year, $43.5 million extension this offseason, keeping him in New York for the prime of his career.
After four years in the league, it seems like Hall is finally getting some of the respect he deserves as one of the NFL's most talented running backs, and the latest rankings prove it.
Breece Hall lands on NFL's top 10 RBs list for the first time
Every season, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler polls high-ranking NFL executives, coaches, and scouts for their opinion on the best players at their respective positions.
For the first time in his career, Hall cracked the list. It might only be tenth, but it's better than honorable mention, which is what he's been in years past.
"No Jets player in franchise history produced more scrimmage yards through the first four years than Hall, who has 5,040 yards despite missing much of his rookie year with an ACL tear," wrote Fowler. "Hall turned in his first 1,000-yard rushing campaign last season for the Jets, who rewarded Hall with a three-year, $43.5 million extension this offseason."
Hall is a running back with true do-it-all ability. He's a powerful runner, has home run-hitting ability, and is even a threat as a pass catcher out of the backfield. It's not just fans who recognize this, but lead decision-makers around the league, too.
"True three-down back, creates as a runner and can play in the passing game with good hands. He's a big back [at 220-plus pounds] with the ability to create on his own with good body control and is strong through contact."Anonymous high-ranking NFL executive
Hall is set up to be the crown jewel of the Jets' running game next season. After a big payday, New York will surely look to get its money's worth out of their former second-round pick.
New offensive coordinator Frank Reich is well-known for his run-heavy schemes, and Hall should be set up to move up even higher than 10 on next year's rankings.
