Breece Hall’s name is once again swirling in New York Jets trade rumors, and this time, it’s happening just hours before the start of the 2025 NFL Draft.

NFL insider Josina Anderson reported on Thursday that a league source told her they had “heard about the potential availability” of the Jets running back “within the last week and a half.” With the draft looming, Hall’s future in New York is far from certain.

This isn’t the first time Hall has found himself at the center of trade buzz this offseason. Speculation has lingered for weeks that the Jets could look to move the former second-round pick as part of their offensive reshuffling under a new regime.

Hall added even more fuel to the fire with a curious social media post a couple of hours before Anderson's report. The Iowa State product a simple “🤞” (crossed fingers) emoji on X (formerly Twitter) earlier in the day.

The timing of the tweet, paired with the mounting rumors, has only intensified speculation that something might be brewing behind the scenes. Whether the Jets are seriously considering trading Hall remains unclear, but this does appear to be more than just smoke.

The NY Jets could trade Breece Hall during the 2025 NFL Draft

A second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Hall emerged as one of the best running backs in the NFL following a standout 2023 season in which he finished fourth among all players in total scrimmage yards.

Hall quickly became an offensive cornerstone of the Jets' roster and was regularly positioned alongside Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson when discussing building blocks for the future. That changed a little in 2024, however.

Hall took a sizable step back this past season, averaging just 4.2 yards per carry while struggling with ball security issues. He finished the year with six fumbles and nine drops after recording only three fumbles total in his first two seasons combined.

With Hall set to hit free agency after the season, looming extensions for Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson on the horizon, and a new regime now running the show, the trade speculation is justified.

Hall is coming off a lackluster season and will be seeking a new contract in the near future. If the Jets' new regime isn't nearly as high on his future, it might make sense to trade him now to recoup assets while they can.

Of course, we don't know what Hall's tweet is referencing. Maybe he's ignoring the trade buzz and hoping his team lands him some help in the form of an offensive lineman. Maybe he's a Tyler Warren fan. Maybe the post has nothing to do with football at all.

But what we do know — or at least we should know — is that the trade buzz is legitimate. There have been conversations about a Breece Hall trade, and teams have been notified that he could be available.

Whether a trade actually happens remains to be seen — and for what it’s worth, I don't get the sense the Jets are actively shopping him — but fans shouldn’t be surprised if their star running back is wearing a new uniform by the end of the weekend.
