In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the possibility that the New York Jets could draft Ashton Jeanty, the latest Breece Hall trade rumors, the Jets' plans for the quarterback position, and our weekly draft spotlight.
The first half of the show was devoted to a discussion around Jeanty and Hall, specifically. In reality, the discussion was really two different conversations.
Justin and Mike both agreed that Jeanty is one of the best overall prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, but how much of an impact would he really make on the Jets' offense? Justin argued that his impact would be even more significant than Tyler Warren or Tetairoa McMillan.
In a draft class lacking elite, blue-chip prospects, Jeanty stands out from the pack and is at least a tier or two above Warren and McMillan. Of course, Jeanty doesn't necessarily fill a roster hole like the others do.
That brings us to Hall. The former second-round pick has found himself as the subject of trade rumors, partially due to the Jeanty connection. Hall's future in New York is uncertain, and Justin and Mike took an extensive look at why it could make sense to trade him (and why it couldn't).
The conversation then shifted to a discussion about who Justin and Mike would prefer the Jets to draft with the No. 7 overall pick. Each host gave their personal top-five big board for the Jets, with players like Warren, Jeanty, McMillan, and Armand Membou being discussed at length.
Justin and Mike then talked about Justin Fields and the expectation that the Jets won't target a quarterback early in this year's draft. The Jets appear committed to giving Fields a real shot to prove he can be the long-term solution, meaning fans shouldn't expect the team to select a Day 1 or Day 2 QB prospect.
Finally, the weekly draft spotlight returned, with Mike focusing on fan-favorite Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals and Justin taking a closer look at Oregon defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell. Both players could be Day 2 or Day 3 targets for the Jets later this month.
