Alternate angle of Garrett Wilson's 'catch of the year' will blow your mind
By Ryan Heckman
In Week 9, the New York Jets were essentially in desperation mode. At 2-6, the Jets knew this game could be the difference between this season being a lost cause and still having a glimmer of hope.
In the fourth quarter, New York found themselves down by a score of 10-7. It had been an ugly, sloppy and embarrassing game in many respects to that point. However, Aaron Rodgers and the offense were heading down the field in effort to try and take the lead.
Wide receiver Davante Adams had left the game, at that point, and was being evaluated for a head injury. There were other injuries which had affected the Jets on this night, and things looked fairly bleak. After the offense had found themselves in the red zone, the Jets were then backed up to a 3rd-and-19.
Jets fans knew it was a near-impossible down-and-distance situation for this team to be in. But, then the unthinkable happened.
Rodgers dropped back to pass and unleashed a ball which landed nearly out of reach for wideout Garrett Wilson, who was in the back of the end zone. Wilson reached up and with one hand made the miraculous happen.
At first glance, it didn't look like a sure touchdown. In fact, it was ruled incomplete. Upon a New York challenge, though, the call was overturned. Wilson's shin landed in bounds which ended up being his saving grace.
People all over social media immediately started calling it the "catch of the year." It was truly a remarkable play. On the live broadcast, it looked as though time was frozen just for a moment. The standard view was breathtaking.
Wait until you see the alternate angle.
The on-field view of Garrett Wilson's catch of the year is everything Jets fans needed
Just moments after the touchdown by Wilson, the NFL's official social media account released footage which every Jets fan will want to watch on repeat for the foreseeable future.
The on-field view ... what a beautiful angle.
The live broadcast began comparing Wilson's catch to another iconic catch which was managed by a New York wide receiver.
Yes, we're talking about the Odell Beckham Jr. catch ... one of the greatest catches you'll ever see.
In all fairness, this catch by Wilson holds up pretty well to the Odell Beckham highlight. And, that's not a slight to Beckham by any means. Both catches were simply the stuff of the gods.
Could the touchdown by Wilson end up being the turning point in this Jets season? Will we be looking back at this moment in reverence?
Only time will tell, but this eye-popping score could wind up being a monumental catalyst for the Jets going forward.
Next up, the Jets look to carry this momentum into a road matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.
