Aaron Rodgers update: Jets QB evaluated for concussion in game vs. Cardinals
By Mike Luciano
In a must-win game against the Arizona Cardinals, Aaron Rodgers and the NY Jets put together just about the worst performance imaginable. Both offense and defense should be held to task, and things have somehow managed to go from bad to worse when the second half started.
After Arizona scored on all four of their possessions in the first half, Rodgers dragged the offense down to the three-yard line. Not only did he fail to get the team in the end zone, but he suffered a nasty hit that could end up impacting his status in the short-term future.
Rodgers went into the blue medical tent and is being evaluated for a concussion. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor started to warm up on the sideline. Rodgers did eventually enter the game again, though he has been dealing with some injuries in the past. What a mess.
Aaron Rodgers injury update: Jets QB evaluated for concussion
Rodgers completed just 10 of 17 passes for 79 yards prior to his concussion. The combination of never having the ball due to a poor defensive showing and his own inefficiency when he got the ball has helped torch this Jets season and throw it in the graveyard.
Arizona quickly scored after the turnover on downs, capping off a drive of nearly 90 yards after Kyler Murray sprinted into the end zone for his second rushing touchdown of the game. Even if Rodgers is healthy, there's an argument to be made against letting him go back in the game at all.
The Jets' season, for all intents and purposes, is over. The absolute best-case scenario for them is losing one more game and sneaking into a wild-card spot at 9-8 thanks to innumerable lucky bounces. That isn't happening, making this whole experiment and regime a complete failure on all levels.
While the Jets will never have below-average quarterback play when Rodgers is in the fold, but this season is toast. While Rodgers avoiding an injury is positive, it may not matter much for a team that has already given up on trying to contend for anything this year.
