Aaron Glenn gets brutally honest about Justin Fields flopping with the Jets

The New York Jets took a gamble on quarterback Justin Fields in 2025, and it's safe to say it did not pay off.

He went 2-7 as a starter and was benched towards the end of the season. His stats were okay on paper, tossing seven touchdowns to only one interception, but his 139.9 passing yards per game tell the whole story.

Fields seemed scared to throw the football at times, and regressed every week after his dominant Week 1 outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets had no choice but to cut ties with him this offseason, shipping him to the Kansas City Chiefs in a Darren Mougey miracle trade.

But Aaron Glenn says Fields' struggles weren't all on him, and he shouldered some of the blame for the former first-round pick's failures.

Aaron Glenn shoulders responsibility for Justin Fields' Jets flop

Glenn spoke with the media on Tuesday morning at the NFL's league owner meetings and was asked about why Fields failed in New York. Instead of dumping all the blame on the Jets' former quarterback, Glenn said he didn't do enough to help Fields succeed.

"I didn't do enough to put him in a position to be successful. And I'm always going to say that, you know, that's my job as the head coach. So I think he's going to do well in Kansas City, I really do, because he's a good person, for one, and he's a good player. I think Andy Reid is going to do a good job with him."

Glenn is clearly taking the high road here, taking the brunt of the Fields flop on himself. After all, it was he and Mougey who decided to sign the quarterback as a free agent last March.

The Jets may end up seeing Fields again in 2026. Kansas City is on the schedule coming up, and if they play each other early enough, they could face their former quarterback if Patrick Mahomes is still recovering from his torn ACL.

That would be the ultimate opportunity for either Fields to get his revenge or the Jets to show they were better off without him under center.

We'll see what kind of sense of humor the NFL's schedule makers have when May - and the full schedule - rolls around.
