Thursday night was another rough one for the New York Jets and Justin Fields, who struggled with accuracy and topped 100 passing yards for just the second time in five weeks. He was more effective on the ground, picking up 67 rushing yards and a touchdown, but that can’t be the extent of his impact under center.

Head coach Aaron Glenn took heat for not making a change at quarterback. Despite Fields wobbling through another tough performance, Glenn stuck with him instead of turning to veteran Tyrod Taylor, as he did back in Week 7 against the Panthers.

SNY’s Connor Rogers was among the critics, calling out Glenn for not holding Fields accountable for his mistakes.

"I mean, there are two people who make the same mistakes every single week on this team," Rogers said. "It's Justin Fields and Michael Clemons. And neither is ever held accountable. And everybody else, it feels like there's a message sent."

"It's always something different. The job of a head coach is to put the team in a position to succeed. You can't walk away from that game tonight and say he did that. It's just tough, man. Like, everybody wanted it to work with Justin Fields, but at some point, you tether over the line that you're costing everyone in the locker room."

Early on, Glenn made accountability a priority, even cutting Xavier Gipson after a costly muffed punt in Week 1. Quincy Williams, New York's best linebacker, was demoted. But that message has started to unravel, as Rogers said, with Glenn refusing to bench players who continue making the same mistakes.

Glenn did make a quarterback switch back in the Panthers game, but Taylor’s knee injury the following week handed the job back to Fields. He played well enough to hold onto it for a bit, but things have gone downhill since. Glenn has also sidestepped questions about his starting quarterback for weeks, fueling more frustration.

After Thursday’s 27-14 loss to the Patriots, though, the first-year head coach finally shifted his tone. He sounded open to a quarterback change and didn’t push back against reporters.

That may signal something is coming, especially with 10 days to evaluate things before a Week 12 matchup against the Ravens. The Jets aren’t going anywhere this season, but they’re barely staying competitive, and quarterback play is the biggest reason why.

Sure, Taylor might not be the long-term answer, but at this point, what’s the harm in trying something new to give the rest of the offense a chance to breathe and make plays over the final seven games?
