With the way Braelon Allen has been running the football for the New York Jets over the last few weeks, it's not hard to see why Jets fans and football fans in general think the team is going to move on from Breece Hall. After all, there are several teams out there who could be in the market for a starting-caliber running back.

Allen has proven that he has the ability to be a bell-cow running back. Over the last five games (of which Hall has been absent), he's rushed 93 times for 504 yards, good for 5.4 yards per carry. With that kind of production, you're not going to just pull him off the field because of a preseason depth chart.

But that begs the question: Is Hall okay with being a change-of-pace running back? After signing a three-year, $43.5 million contract this past offseason, would he accept a limited role in the Jets' offense?

That's why the trade speculation makes sense, as Hall was a player who garnered interest around the league ahead of last year's deadline. Could those talks resume with the Jets boasting a new star in the backfield?

Aaron Glenn shuts down Breece Hall trade speculation

At his Monday morning press conference, Jets' head coach Aaron Glenn was asked point-blank if the team was getting calls on Hall. He answered about as bluntly as he could.

"Guys, listen, Breece is still a part of this team. I understand how the noise happens when things like this happen, but I've said it before. We're in the business of keeping good players. And he's one of our better players, so Breece will still be here."

Glenn seemed pretty defiant about the fact that the Jets aren't going to be trading Hall, and it's true, dealing him ahead of the November 10 deadline would certainly bring the talent level down in New York.

Having a one-two punch of both Allen and Hall could take an already potent rushing attack to another level, and even if the Jets were to trade Hall, would it really be worth their while?

Last year's deadline, Darren Mougey was looking for a third-round draft pick to pull the trigger on a Hall trade. Reportedly, the best offer he got was a fourth-rounder from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Surely, those offers won't be as attractive this time around. A fourth-round pick may be the best offer from a team like the New York Giants or the Minnesota Vikings, or whoever isn't willing to pay the price for Jonathan Taylor.

As Glenn said, they may just be better off hanging onto their more talented players, if not for the current regime, but for the next one.
