2025 NFL Draft Order: NY Jets fall victim to wild week of tanking drama
By Justin Fried
The 2024 season feels like it was meticulously designed to troll the NY Jets. The latest footnote in what has been one of the most frustrating years in franchise history came on Sunday following the team's 32-26 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
The Jets had a near-90% chance of winning at one point in Week 14, only to blow it again in embarrassing fashion. But surely there would be a silver lining, right? A Jets loss would be good for draft position, allowing the team to get one step closer to a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Except that didn't happen. Despite Sunday's loss, the Jets actually managed to fall in the draft order. They entered Sunday's game with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and somehow fell to seventh in the pecking order.
Only the Jets. Below is a look at the updated 2025 NFL Draft order.

The bottom 18 teams in the NFL are included in the table above. It should be noted that this just includes current non-playoff teams, as draft order for the other teams is dependent on where teams lose in the postseason.
The Jets are currently in a six-way tie with five other 3-10 teams, but only the Cleveland Browns select behind them. That's because the first tiebreaker for draft position is strength of schedule, also known as the combined win/loss record of each team's opponents.
That's what allowed the Titans to leapfrog the Jets despite both teams losing in Week 14. In fact, the Jets had a golden opportunity to climb the rankings if not for a few last-minute losses.
The Carolina Panthers nearly pulled off an upset over the Philadelphia Eagles, only for an Xavier Legette drop to end their comeback hopes. The New York Giants could've upset the New Orleans Saints if not for a blocked Graham Gano field goal at the end of regulation.
Even the Titans nearly won their game before choking against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jets' last-second heroics to clutch a loss may prove important in the long run, but it did them no favors this week.
The Jets will have another opportunity to climb back up the rankings in their Week 15 game against the Jaguars. With both teams at 3-10, this should be the so-called "Tank Bowl" of next week's slate of games.
The Jets find themselves in an all-too-familiar position with four games remaining in the season: playing for pride — or, for many fans, for draft position.
While victories may offer temporary satisfaction, losses are in the best interest of the organization, bringing the team closer to a higher pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. For a franchise desperate to reverse its fortunes, the next few weeks could quietly shape the future.
