Get up-to-the-minute updates from tonight’s preseason Week 2 matchup between the New York Jets and Detroit Lions.
Tonight, the New York Jets hit the road to the Motor City as they have a matchup against the Detroit Lions. Both teams are 1-0 and still trying to hammer out all the kinks of their playbooks as they look for their second victory.
For the Jets, it all comes down to how disciplined they are when it comes to all the little things. They had a few penalties that shouldn’t have been committed and even though they won last week over the Tennessee Titans, it was to the final tune of 7-3. The only touchdown of the game came from the starting offense which means there is still a lot of work to be done for it to click on all cylinders.
The Jets defense, however, played very well last week as they totaled eight sacks. Yes, it’s just preseason action, but it was good to see such pressure against opposing quarterbacks. Even the defensive secondary played well but again, there is still more room to capitalize on opportunities.

The #Jets had 14 passing yards in the first half. A portion of the second quarter played against #Lions second-team D.
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
Jets S Rontez Miles seems to be heading back to the locker room.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 20, 2017
Petty is now 10 of 14 for 102 yards. Didn't get a good replay of that end zone pass to Leggett. Was that a PD or went off his hands?
— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 20, 2017
Ross Martin is good from 31 yards, so the #Jets have now made a field goal in the preseason. Martin missed from 56, Catanzaro from 55.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 20, 2017
Rookie WR Chad Hansen has 2 pro catches for 19 yards, both fr Bryce Petty. Hansen's 9-yd grab late in 3Q is his 1st pro 3rd-dn conversion.

Dyan Donahue on the field. Making his #Jets debut.
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
Jets K Ross Martin goes wide left on a 56-yard kick. Chandler Catanzaro missed from 55 last week, so they're still even.

Hammond muffs a punt. This group of punt and kickoff returners is ridiculous. They miss Lucky. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 20, 2017
CB Dex McDougle opens 2H w/ his 4th PD in 2 gms, then makes 3rd-dn tackle on WR Jace Billingsley to force punt.
— Randy Lange (@rlangejets) August 20, 2017
Jets have -3 passing yards #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 20, 2017
On CBS, Todd Bowles said Bryce Petty will start the 2nd half. So Christian Hackenberg is done. He went 2 of 6 for 14 yards.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 20, 2017
Down 13 at the half. #NYJvsDET pic.twitter.com/jNytnraZyd

#Lions lead the #Jets, 13-0. They’ve out-gained NY, 182-44, in the first half.
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
Pregame, Bowles said Hackenberg would play first half, and Petty the second. If that’s the case, Hack’s night likely over.
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
Christian Hackenberg has played five drives tonight, after getting eight in the opener. Will he start the second half? Seems probable.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 20, 2017
Sad but true. https://t.co/E6ZIJ8pS3j
— FanSided (@FanSided) August 20, 2017
Will the 13th time be the charm for Christian Hackenberg? His first 12 drives in preseason haven't resulted in any points. #Jets
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 20, 2017
Good rush by Darron Lee. They should use him more as a blitzer. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 20, 2017
Jets QB Christian Hackenberg is 1 of 5 for 17 yards. The only completion was a dump-off to Bilal Powell, who did all the work.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 20, 2017
Man, this #Jets OL gets zero push. On that last run, not one defender was driven off line. Ugly.
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
Tremendous job there by Hackenberg. Felt the rush, climbed pocket, broke tackle, got first and…slid (!). Maybe this gets him going?
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
Lions control first quarter of action, Jets trail 3-0. But DET has a 1st and goal to start the 2nd. #NYJvsDET
— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 20, 2017
Darron Lee did everything right there… then got cut. Was in position to make play before. #Jets
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
#Jets first three series: 3 yards. 0 first downs. 0/3 on third down.
Hack: 0/2, 2 sacksPowell: 5 rushes, 20 yards
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 20, 2017
Third-and-13 and #Jets run a draw play. Another three-and-out. Three of them in three drives so far tonight.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 19, 2017
Two three-and-outs so far for Hackenberg & Co. Expect some quick throws to get him in a rhythm. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 19, 2017
This Jets defensive unit is a frisky bunch. They talk a bunch pre-snap and all are on their toes. They don't stand still.
— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 19, 2017
Peake should've had it on the quick slant. Familiar theme throughout camp: Lot of drops. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 19, 2017
Hackenberg goes deep to Robby Anderson. Looks like Anderson had a step on DB. Ball a yard or two too far #jets
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 19, 2017
Bowles told CBS it'll be Hackenberg and Petty tonight. No McCown. This is strange. Bowles said the other day that JM needed "more work."
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 19, 2017
#Lions lead, 3-0, after Matt Prater 37-yard field goal.
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 19, 2017
Jonotthan Harris started at center for the Jets. Brandon Shell at RT, Ben Ijalana at LT. Todd Bowles said his OL is wide open.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 19, 2017
Hackenberg sacked. Got bulldozed. No one blocked Washington. Have seen that way, way too much in camp #Jets
