Get up-to-the-minute updates from tonight’s preseason Week 1 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets.

Preseason Week 1 is finally here! Tonight, the New York Jets welcome the Tennessee Titans to MetLife Stadium to begin playing against real competition. Of course, starters from each team might only get a drive or two since preseason football doesn’t mean much of anything. It’s all about seeing what backups and third-stringers can do in real game simulations and also testing out certain packages and plays in games that don’t even matter.

Tonight for the Jets, it’s all about the quarterback, offensive line, defensive secondary, linebackers, ah heck, the entire team, to be honest. They’ve purged most of their veteran talent in favor of rebuilding the team in favor of a bright future. There will be some obstacles and adversity along the way but in the grand scheme of things, the Jets are doing it right, at the cost of the 2017 NFL season.

Don’t expect the Jets to win many football games this season but the good news is that progression, development, and growth will define this franchise as early as tonight. The 2017 NFL Draft class got some solid grades so far this offseason as it’ll be exciting to see how they develop as the season progresses.

The Jets and Titans have combined for 445 yards so far tonight. … Yes, this 7-3 game has been as thrilling as you are imagining.

Doug Middleton is hurt. He has a chance to make the team as a backup safety #nyj

— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 13, 2017

Nice play for Hansen. Will be good for him to build a little confidence. Has struggled in camp. #jets

— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 13, 2017

The Jets defense has seven sacks. That last one resulted in a fumble in their own territory, keeping their 7-3 lead alive.

BIG stop just outside the red zone.@AXJ76 forces the fumble, @joshmartin95 recovers it. #Jets ball, up 4, own 35, 8:49 left. #TENvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/D8stIAe8lJ

Hackenberg w/ 2 3rd-down conversion completions, to TE Jason Vander Laan for JVL's 1st pro catch, then to WR Myles White in 3rd qtr.

— Randy Lange (@rlangejets) August 13, 2017

Would be interesting to see Christian Hackenberg get more work with first-team offensive line. Not getting a lot of help from backups here.

— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) August 13, 2017

In case you can't see it on TV: the 1st-team DL & LBs are running sprints during each TO.

2-min warning, Jets up 7-0. Last time they led by as much as 7 at half in a PS opener was by 10-3 @ PIT en route to 16-6 win in 2002.

#Jets rookie WR ArDarius Stewart on the field for the first time to start this drive. Frankie Hammond opposite him

— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 13, 2017

Jets shuffle up the O-Line, from left to right: Ijalana, Watts, Harrison, Dozier, Shell.

— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 13, 2017

Robby Anderson the star starter. Three catches for 71 yards. Looked really good. #jets

— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 13, 2017

2 defensive series; 2 punts forced

— Gang Green Nation (@GangGreenNation) August 13, 2017

On successive plays, Sheldon Richardson bulldozes into Marcus Mariota, then Buster Skrine nearly comes down w/INT. Jets D can play a little.

— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 13, 2017

Interesting D line rotation tonight. Richardson, Wilkerson and Williams not playing together so far. Bowles rotating them in. #nyj

— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 13, 2017

Hackenberg's first drive goes basically nowhere (thanks to a Brent Qvale holding penalty), but he goes 3 for 3 for 17 yards.

— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 13, 2017

Robby Anderson has a ton of talent. Just need to learn to beat press. When given a clean release, he can hurt a defense #Jets

8-play, 78-yard drive. McCown opens up 3 of 4 for 72 yards with the TD. Early penalty on Casey was key and then the vet hit Anderson.

— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 12, 2017

McCown was 3-for-4, 72 yards (one drop) on the drive. All through the air + p foul penalty on Tenn. No running game. #Jets

— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 12, 2017

McCown to Peake, 5-yard TD. Impressive start by the Jets, facing the Titans' starting defense. #Jets

— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 12, 2017

And the Jets open with a holding penalty on WR Jalin Marshall that negates an Elijah McGuire run.

— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) August 12, 2017

Anderson and Marshall starting WRs #nyj

— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 12, 2017

Josh McCown will start at quarterback for the Jets tonight. It would be a shock if Christian Hackenberg isn't the second QB in.
