Jets save their season with Week 2 victory
By Paul A. Esden Jr.
The New York Jets beat the Buffalo Bills 37-31 on Thursday Night Football. By virtue, they salvaged their 2016 season.
It may seem a bit premature to make this bold statement after only just two weeks into the regular season. Understanding a few factors of this season for the New York Jets may change your mind.

The first thing we could start with is the metrics. Only 12% of teams who have started 0-2 have made the playoffs in NFL history. So avoiding their first 0-2 season start since 2007 was huge from that standpoint. On top of that, as many have already noted, the Jets have a very difficult schedule ahead.
While head coach Todd Bowles said at the Jets’ kickoff luncheon in early September, they can only play one game at a time. It’s hard not to look at the rest of the daunting slate.
Over the next four weeks, the Jets have road-trips to Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and to Arizona. Not to mention a comfy home game in the middle of the season against the Seattle Seahawks.

With their Week 2 win, the Jets have a key victory in the win column.
They were swept the past two seasons, including against their former coach Rex Ryan.
So the Jets deserve a ton of credit for avoiding an early season crisis.
The Jets couldn’t afford to start the season 0-2, it could’ve been fatal heading into this difficult stretch.
Now too often the thought of a “must win game”, gets thrown around. For the Jets they now have the mental advantage, in theory, they’ve done what they’re supposed to do.

The Jets want to at the very least split with their AFC East rivals and now with a Bills victory already under their belt, that should instill confidence. Especially considering that it was in hostile territory and the next time the Jets and Bills matchup will be in the lovely confines of MetLife Stadium.

Again you’ve got to take these games one at a time. But if the Jets can go .500 over the first six games, they’ve got to feel good going into the rest of the season.
