Although the NY Jets failed to make the NFL Playoffs this season, statistically they were an impressive team. Multiple single-season franchise records, marks that have stood for decades, were shattered by players in 2015.

Upon assuming office a year ago, general manager Mike Macagnan was faced with the monumental task of taking a 4-12 team and turning them into a contender.

Thus far, he has succeeded. Although the Jets didn’t quite manage to make the playoffs in 2015, they were a talented team that thrived on all sides of the ball.

In fact, in many aspects, this season’s Jets were historically talented. The 2015 team had multiple players who shattered long held single-season franchise records.

Let’s take a quick look at the Jets players who made history this season.

More from The Jet Press

Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB)

It’s difficult to believe that, prior to the start of the season, Fitzpatrick was a cast-off, journeyman, back-up quarterback who was never expected to see a snap in a regular season game.

Following the punch heard around New York, the Jets were suddenly left with few options at quarterback. Fitzpatrick had to play while presumed starter Geno Smith rehabbed a broken jaw.

In keeping with the predictions of at least one writer, Fitzpatrick’s first season in New York was a monster success. He became the first Jets’ quarterback to throw for 30+ touchdown passes in a season. In doing so, he shattered Vinny Testaverde‘s previous franchise record (29) for most single-season touchdown passes.

Brandon Marshall (WR)

One could argue that the Jets trade for Marshall was one of their greatest moves in franchise history. With two more seasons under contract, the prolific wide receiver has already more than outperformed his trade cost (5th round pick to Chicago Bears).

In 2015, Marshall put together the greatest season by a receiver ever to play for the Jets. He became the first Jets’ receiver to have an 100+ reception season.

Additionally, Marshall broke the franchise record for most single-season receiving yards (1,502) and tied the record for most single-season receiving touchdowns (14). Considering those records were once exclusively held by Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Maynard, Marshall’s achievements are all the more impressive.

It may not have been an ideal season for the Jets, but at least their fans can find some enjoyment from the many historic moments Fitzpatrick and Marshall provided in 2015.
