The Redskins vs Jets had the makings of classic trap game for Gang Green but they were able to battle through adversity and come through with a win. Take a look at the top 5 fun facts from this Week 5 matchup.

The NY Jets were able to adjust accordingly against the Washington Redskins and bounce back nicely in the second half of their contest. The Jets won 34-20 and although it wasn’t pretty, they were able to secure their fourth victory of the season.

In doing so, the Jets are now 4-1 for the year and headed into one of their biggest games of the season against the New England Patriots on the road. It promises to be a great AFC East clash as the Jets will certainly ride some major momentum thanks to their victory over the Redskins.

5. There is a first for everything

For the first time at home, the Jets defeated the Redskins. Keep in mind, this is the 11th regular season matchup between both teams as the Jets were never able to get a win as the home team. Their most recent home game was back on 11-4-07 that saw the Jets lose to the Redskins 20-23 in overtime. The Jets knew that if they were to continue heading into a rebounding season this year, these are the kind of games they absolutely need to win. The Redskins were pretty banged up and the Jets capitalized when it mattered most to finally get a win in front of their home crowd.

4. The streak continues

Wide receiver Eric Decker has continued his streak of recording a touchdown in every game he’s been active in so far this season. Back to his natural No. 2 receiving role on the Jets, he’s been thriving on the Jets’ offense thanks to key mismatches and his ability to haul in touchdowns in the end-zone. Against the Redskins, Decker totaled 59 receiving yards on 4 receptions for a touchdown. Keep in mind Decker is the only wide receiver in the entire NFL to catch a touchdown in every game this season with the exception obviously during the bye week.

3. The bearded runner

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had an amazing 31 yard run that resulted in a touchdown, which is his longest one he’s done since 2009 when he was a member of the Buffalo Bills. This was the longest run by a quarterback of the Jets since Richard Todd did it in 1980 against the New Orleans Saints when he had a 30 yard run. Fitzpatrick totaled 253 passing yards on 19 completions for 2 touchdowns and an interception. This was also his first game as a member of the Jets with a passer rating over 100 in which he achieved 113.1.

2. This man continues to run with purpose

Running back Chris Ivory for the first time in his career posted consecutive 100+ yard rushing performances. He also had a career high 196 yards from scrimmage which broke his previous career high set back in 2010 as a member of the New Orleans Saints when he totaled 175 yards from scrimmage. Ivory was an absolute workhorse against the Redskins that saw his final totals be 146 rushing yards on 20 carries and a touchdown. Ivory continues to surprise many across the football world for his aggression and power running style which will only get even better as the season progresses.

1. This wide receiver is truly amazing

Is there anything wide receiver Brandon Marshall hasn’t done yet? He’s been an absolute monster on the field for the Jets as he made some incredible franchise history against the Redskins. Marshall totaled 111 receiving yards on 7 receptions for a touchdown. He joins an elite group of receivers in Don Maynard and George Sauer as the only players in team history with four consecutive 100+ yard receiving games. This was also his 37th game in his career that saw him hit the century mark with receiving yards.
