1 Cam Ward stat shows Jets may have a massive defensive advantage in Week 1

The New York Jets are set to open their season against the Tennessee Titans next weekend in Week 1 of the 2026 regular season. There's no shortage of narratives surrounding the game, first and foremost, ex-Jets coach Robert Saleh looking to get revenge on the team that fired him nearly two years ago.

There are also plenty of former players on both teams, with Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and T'Vondre Sweat making their return to Nashville, while Jermaine Johnson, John Franklin-Myers, Solomon Thomas, and Tony Adams look to get their own vengeance against some old teammates.

But let's set aside the narratives for a moment and look at clear areas of weakness that the Jets can attack, particularly on defense. Former No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward is set to enter his second season as the starting quarterback in Tennessee, and after an up-and-down rookie campaign, Titans fans are likely just hoping to see some progress from the former Miami standout.

Well, with Aaron Glenn taking back the reins on defense, there is one tendency dating back to his playcalling days with the Detroit Lions that may give the Jets an edge over Tennessee's hopeful franchise quarterback.

Jet X Factor's Michael Nania shared a statistic from his X account, pointing out Glenn's tendency to blitz. Ward struggled mightily against pressure in 2025, meaning the Jets have a clear point of weakness to make the second-year quarterback struggle.

Not helping Ward's case is the Titans' middling offensive line. They were a rough unit last season and hardly improved this past offseason. Pro Football Focus ranked them as the 29th-best group in the league going into 2026.

If Glenn dials it up the same way he did throughout his days as the defensive coordinator in Detroit, it should be a long day for Ward and Tennessee, especially with the stable of pass rushers the Jets boast.

Joseph Ossai's status is unclear for the season opener, considering the injury the former Cincinnati Bengal suffered in the preseason finale. Regardless, No. 2 overall pick David Bailey should be primed for a breakout first game in the NFL.

The Titans have an up-and-coming right tackle in JC Latham who could prove to be a challenge, but their left tackle, Dan Moore Jr., was barely considered starting-caliber in 2025. He recorded a PFF grade of 61.9, ranking 62nd out of 89 qualified offensive tackles.

Bailey should have plenty of opportunities to wreak havoc, alongside Will McDonald IV and Kingsley Enagbare.
