The NY Jets can never seem to catch a break. Even while the team focuses on its search for a new general manager and head coach, players around the league can’t resist taking shots at the organization.

Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson spoke to reporters on Monday following his team's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this past weekend.

Anderson expressed frustration over the Texans' disappointing end to their season and outlined what his team needs to do to avoid a similar fate in 2025 — starting with finding a way to beat the Jets.

Anderson insisted that the Texans need to win more regular-season games to give themselves an advantage in the postseason. More specifically, Houston "can't lose to teams like the Titans and the Jets."

The NY Jets must win to change the narrative

The Texans finished the season with a 10-7 record alone atop the AFC South standings, but Anderson isn't wrong. Losses to the Jets and Titans hurt the team's chances of securing a higher seed and possibly home-field advantage in the second round of the playoffs.

However, despite the fact that the Texans are obviously a significantly better team than the Jets, Houston has had trouble with its AFC foes over the last couple of seasons. Anderson, in particular, has yet to defeat the Jets.

The Jets have squared off with the Texans in each of the last two seasons and defeated them by a combined score of 51-19. That includes a 30-6 beatdown at the hands of Zach Wilson in 2023 and a 21-13 victory this season.

Anderson and the Texans' defense was responsible for arguably the best game of Wilson's entire NFL career in 2023 when he completed 27-of-36 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers tossed three touchdowns in the Jets' win this past season.

Anderson isn't wrong in his assertion. The Texans should beat teams like the Jets and Titans, who combined for just eight wins in 2024. But perhaps taking shots at a team that has outscored his squad by 32 points over the past two years isn’t the best look.

Regardless, the only way for the Jets to avoid catching strays like this in the future is to start winning football games. The Jets haven't won more than seven games in a season since 2015. They haven't made the postseason in 14 years.

Until the Jets start to win, they will continue to be the NFL’s favorite punching bag — a team mocked even by those they’ve dominated. That's just the reality of the situation.
