Who are the announcers and referees for NY Jets vs. Texans tonight?
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets are back in primetime as they take on the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football later tonight. The Jets are riding a five-game losing streak that has seen the team's Super Bowl hopes go up in flames.
The organization is in complete turmoil and is in desperate need of any source of optimism to turn its fortunes around. A win in tonight's game would be a good start.
The Texans enter this game with a 6-2 record as one of the best teams in the NFL, although most of their wins haven't exactly been comfortable. Houston has only won one of its six games this season by more than six points.
The Jets are desperate to keep any hopes of making a playoff run alive while the Texans are hoping to continue their winning ways. Here's a look at the announcers and referees for tonight's game.
Announcers for NY Jets vs. Texans
- Network: Amazon Prime
- Play-by-Play: Al Michaels
- Analyst: Kirk Herbstreit
- Sideline: Kaylee Hartung
The Jets-Texans game will be called by the usual Thursday Night Football announcer duo of Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit. Michaels and Herbstreit have been the TNF broadcast duo since the start of the 2022 season.
Michaels began his broadcasting career all the way back in the 1960s and is one of the most respected and experienced football announcers. He previously spent decades as the lead play-by-play guy for Sunday Night Football and later Monday Night Football.
Herbstreit has more experience calling college games, having only started doing analyst work for NFL games in 2020. He played football as a quarterback at Ohio State before his broadcasting career.

The head referee for today's Jets-Texas game is Shawn Hochuli, who is entering his 11th season as an NFL official and his seventh as a crew chief. Hochuli's crew has thrown the eighth-most flags in 2024, ranking roughly middle of the pack. Hochuli is the son of longtime and now-retired NFL official, Ed Hochuli.
Umpire Terry Killens is actually a former NFL player, having spent seven years as a linebacker between 1996 and 2002. Killens began his officiating career in the AAC in 2013 and has been officiating NFL games since the 2019 season.
Fun fact: Killens is the first person to have played and officiated in the Super Bowl. He played in Bowl XXXIV as a member of the Tennessee Titans and was part of the referee crew for Super Bowl LVIII earlier this year.
