The NY Jets showed that not only did Aaron Rodgers arriving in town fail to kill the 'Same old Jets' movement, but he may have ballooned it to previously unprecedented levels. Losing to the New England Patriots in this weakened state should be the final nail in this team's coffin at 2-6.
The Jets for solid play out of Aaron Rodgers, and it still didn't matter. The defense played very well against teams like Minnesota and Denver, and that didn't matter. This team finds new ways to lose, including one that had quite literally never been done before.
Before Sunday against New England, teams had been 756-0 in games where they scored 20 points, didn't turn the ball over, and held their opponent to under 250 yards of offense. The Jets, naturally, became the first such team to lose thanks to some horrendous execution and coaching.
Jets futility hits new low with historically bad loss to Patriots
The Greg Zuerlein misses are one of the main reasons the Jets are continuing to lose games, but it goes beyond that. Sure the Jets may have some personnel flaws and stale offensive schemes, but the fact none of their expensive jigsaw pieces are locking together. This leads to embarrassment.
In just this game alone, the Jets burned three timeouts in the first quarter, took a delay of game on a two-point conversion attempt, and kicked a cowardly field goal on 4th-and-inches from the 11-yard line. These types of decisions are why this team has lost five in a row.
The switch from Robert Saleh to Jeff Ulbrich has not only failed to spark this team, but it has hurt them immeasurably. Saleh may not have been a great coach, but he looks like Bill Walsh compared to Ulbrich, who is totally in over his skis pulling double duty as head coach and defensive coordinator.
The Jets are likely headed for yet another rebuild, which will me the firing of Joe Douglas, departures of veterans like Rodgers and Davante Adams, and another young quarterback coming to town. Same old Jets has never been this strong, unfortunately.
