The New York Jets picked up another morale-boosting victory on Sunday, edging out the Atlanta Falcons by a final score of 27–24 thanks to a clutch 56-yard field goal from the ageless wonder himself, Nick Folk.

It’s the exact kind of win that head coach Aaron Glenn wants and another step in proving this team is buying in, competing, and slowly turning the corner after a disastrous 0-7 start. The Jets are now 3-2 in their last five games and beginning to stack positive results.

But their latest win came with a very real consequence. The Jets entered Week 13 sitting fourth in the 2026 NFL Draft order. After winning, they slid three spots to No. 7, and their chances of landing the No. 1 pick plummeted to just 2%, per ESPN Analytics.

Culture matters, and Glenn has undeniably stabilized this team after a rocky start. Still, every win has a ripple effect, and this one changed up the draft board quite a bit.

The Jets now find themselves in a crowded cluster of 3–9 teams behind Tennessee and the 2–10 trio of New Orleans, the Giants, and Las Vegas. Washington’s OT loss to a 10-win Denver team looms especially large.

The Commanders were a batted pass on a two-point attempt away from pulling off a massive upset over the No. 1 seed Broncos on Sunday night. Instead, they dropped to 3–9 and jumped the Jets into the No. 6 slot.

Cleveland and Arizona sit right there, too, at 3–9, with strength-of-schedule sorting everyone out. The Falcons (actually the Rams), now 4–8, are a little further down the order, as are the Bengals and Vikings at 4–8.

A few upcoming games will have major draft implications. Jets–Saints in two weeks suddenly looks enormous for draft position. The Saints still face the Titans in a potential “loser climbs the draft” matchup, and they close the year against Atlanta.

Meanwhile, Cleveland has a massive game against Tennessee next Sunday in another game that Jets fans will monitor closely. The Jets already own head-to-head wins over the Browns, Bengals, and Falcons, three teams in the top-10 mix.

Of course, the quarterback picture is what most fans are watching. The class remains uncertain and not especially top-heavy. Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza sits as a tentative QB1, but he’s far from a can’t-miss prospect.

Alabama’s Ty Simpson has cooled off. Oregon’s Dante Moore is widely expected to return to school. And there’s even an outside chance that Texas star Arch Manning declares and shakes up the draft entirely.

So yes, Sunday’s win hurt the Jets in the short term. They’re likely out of the running for the very top pick, barring a trade-up. But with five first-rounders over the next two years, the Jets have the flexibility to go get their guy if they fall in love with a quarterback.

For now, this team is competing, improving, and stacking wins even if those wins come with draft-order consequences.
