New York Jets wide receiver Tim Patrick has seen quite a few explosive offenses during his globetrotting career in the NFL, and his latest comments show just how highly he holds this collection of talent.

Patrick said the Jets have an "insane" amount of talent on the offensive side of the ball, claiming he has never played in an offense with this high a ceiling. Patrick was reminded that he was on a 2024 Lions team that went 15-2, and he backed his take without any hesitation.

Patrick said that the tight end room, which features Mason Taylor and top pick Kenyon Sadiq, is the X-factor that puts New York ahead in this comparison. Those are bold words, and now it's on those same Jets to prove their veteran right.

Frank Reich's offense may rank 27th in points per game at the moment, but there are reasons that explain this decline. On top of the fact that two of their five games this season have been played in heavy rain, quarterback Geno Smith has been a bit more up-and-down as the season has progressed.

In the big picture, Jets fans should be absolutely thrilled with the production they've gotten out of Smith, who looks much better than he did last year with the Las Vegas Raiders. However, without many of his safety valves, his bad habit of holding the ball and taking bad sacks has come back to bite the Jets in the rear end.

The Jets haven't had first-round pick Omar Cooper Jr. since the first drive of the season due to injury, and No. 2 wideout Adonai Mitchell remains sidelined with a finger injury. With recently extended running back Breece Hall and left guard Dylan Parham both on the mend and Taylor only recently returning, the Jets are the walking wounded on offense.

The New York Jets could improve on offense when healthy

Not only are Cooper and Sadiq extremely talented pieces for the future, but Garrett Wilson is continuing to show the rest of the NFL that he is one of the most uniquely talented receivers in the game. For the first time in the better part of a decade, skill position talent is one of the team's strengths.

If Parham plays as well as he did before the injury, New York can go into games expecting four of their five offensive linemen to perform at an average or above-average level. Reich may not be the offensive whiz he was in his prime, but he appears to have given this unit a fairly consistent floor on that side of the ball. When they are fully healthy, the Jets might be able to make more noise than they have so far.

Invoking the name of a Ben Johnson-led offense that was mowing people down even on their off days might be what comes back to make Patrick look foolish here, but there is plenty of sincerity behind these quotes.
