All offseason, there's been chatter around the New York Jets about adding a veteran quarterback to their room to back up Geno Smith.
After all, the Jets' quarterbacks don't have a whole lot of starting experience. Cade Klubnik is a rookie, Brady Cook had four disaster starts towards the end of last season, and Bailey Zappe has some experience but is underwhelming at best.
Earlier in the offseason, the Jets were flirting with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, reportedly offering him a contract to be their QB2. Instead, he opted to join the broadcast ranks.
The Jets seem content rolling with their current room, at least for the time being, but there's reportedly another veteran signal caller that New York can cross off their list, along with Wilson.
'Ship has sailed' on potential Jets-Cooper Rush signing
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, former Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Cooper Rush is no longer an option for the Jets this offseason.
Rush is one of the most experienced quarterbacks available on the free agent market at this point in the offseason, and Cimini told his Jets Collective podcast co-hosts where New York is more likely to find their backup.
"I think the Cooper Rush thing is that ship has sailed. I would keep an eye on the Philadelphia situation. They have a lot of quarterbacks there. Andy Dalton knows Frank Reich, if you want to find a connection. I mean, are they going to keep four quarterbacks on their roster? I don't know. I mean, they say they can do that, but that's a lot.Rich Cimini
So I would keep an eye on that situation. I think it would be more of a player who's on a roster."
While you can argue the Jets need some more experience in their quarterback room, Rush wasn't exactly the best choice.
Despite being 9-7 in 16 career starts, Rush's most recent body of work in Baltimore isn't great. In four appearances, he threw for 303 yards and tossed zero touchdowns to four interceptions.
Cimini points to the Philadelphia Eagles as a potential trade partner for a quarterback addition. One of Andy Dalton or Tanner McKee would be a fine addition.
Dalton already has a prior connection with Reich dating back to their days with the Carolina Panthers, and would likely have a good grasp on the offense right away.
It all depends on the price and if the Eagles are willing to say goodbye to one of their experienced quarterbacks.
