The Jet Press Podcast: Ranking every Jets draft pick of the Joe Douglas era

In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano put together a tier list of all 40 draft picks of the Joe Douglas era. Who were the worst picks of this era of New York Jets football? What about the best picks?

In a marathon episode that ran over an hour and a half, we created a full tier list ranking every single New York Jets draft pick of the Douglas era. Yup, all 40 of them.

We ranked these Jets draft picks from S-tier all the way down to “not an NFL player,” breaking down the highs, the lows, and the outright disasters of one of the most...interesting drafting stretches in franchise history. There was even a special tier reserved exclusively for Zach Wilson himself.

Of course, we discussed the obvious successes. The Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner picks earned their flowers, while players like Jamien Sherwood and Brandin Echols sparked conversations as some of the more underrated picks of the Douglas era. Echols probably ranked a bit higher than you'd imagine.

Have you ever wanted to listen to a debate about which of Jaylen Key or James Morgan had the more impactful Jets career? What about if Hamsah Nasirildeen was a better pick than Jonathan Marshall? You aren't going to find these conversations anywhere else on the internet.

Unfortunately for Douglas, one trend became impossible to ignore. The most populated tier on the entire list was “not an NFL player,” which accounted for roughly 30 percent of all his draft picks. And that’s without even including players like Carter Warren or La’Mical Perine, who were generously spared from that category.
