The Jet Press Podcast: NY Jets GM buzz, Aaron Glenn rumors, Sam Darnold future

In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the latest NY Jets general manager buzz, Aaron Glenn's growing head coach candidacy, Brian Flores, and the futures of both Robert Saleh and Sam Darnold.

The show started with an in-depth discussion about the Jets' general manager job. With the team's first round of interviews now complete, Justin and Mike insisted they believe the Jets will hire their next GM as early as the beginning of next week.

Minnesota Vikings vice president of player personnel Ryan Grigson, formerly GM of the Indianapolis Colts, has been strongly connected to the job in recent days. Both Justin and Mike explain why they are vehemently against the Jets hiring Grigson.

Other candidates such as Mike Borgonzi (Chiefs), Alec Halaby (Eagles), Mike Greenberg (Buccaneers), and Jon-Eric Sullivan (Packers) all make more sense as potential targets. Who do Justin and Mike think will end up as the Jets GM?

The Jets are likely going to hire their general manager first before shifting their focus to their head coach search, which is evidently still expanding. Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores have emerged as the most likely candidates for that job.

Glenn reportedly would prefer the Jets over the New Orleans Saints if offered the position, and many believe he's strongly in the mix. Flores is another top candidate, who could bring over Josh McCown as his future offensive coordinator. But which coach do we prefer more?

Former Jets head coach Robert Saleh is interviewing with three NFL teams and could be in line to land a head coach job this offseason. He's already seen as a potential favorite for the Jacksonville Jaguars job and will also interview with the Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys.

What's next for Saleh? Will he receive a head coach job as soon as this offseason? Would it be better for him to take a year or two off as a coordinator before jumping back into a head coach role? All of that was discussed.

Finally, Justin and Mike took a brief look at Sam Darnold's struggles over his last two games in Minnesota and what it could mean for his NFL future. How much of Darnold's resurgence in 2024 was a mirage? Is there any chance he could return to the Jets?
