In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano react to Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey's press conference, discuss the impact on Aaron Rodgers' future, and break down what the NY Jets' coaching staff might look like.
The show started with a discussion about Monday's introductory press conference for new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. Both Justin and Mike expressed optimism for the Jets' future and were fired up by Glenn's words on Monday.
The Glenn hire signals a new era of Jets football, and while press conference words alone won't change a culture of losing, Monday was a promising step in the right direction for the organization.
Glenn was notably noncommittal on the future of Aaron Rodgers when speaking to reporters this week. The rookie head coach insisted that the team was still evaluating their roster and that decisions would be made after the coaching staff and front office were put together.
Justin and Mike discussed whether Glenn's arrival would make it more likely that Rodgers would be the Jets' quarterback in 2025. What are the financial ramifications of keeping Rodgers? Can the Jets compete with him at quarterback next season? All of that was discussed in great detail.
Finally, Justin and Mike discussed Glenn's initial coaching staff. Former NFL head coach Steve Wilks was hired as the team's defensive coordinator shortly after recording, but Justin and Mike were both very supportive of the hire.
The Jets are also eyeing Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand as their offensive coordinator. While Justin, Mike, and the Jets would probably prefer Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator and tight ends coach Nick Caley, Engstrand is a solid contingency plan.
