In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano provide a defense of Aaron Glenn, create our own Christmas wishlists for the New York Jets offseason, and discuss some stats in the Gang Green Stat Machine, including the dominance of Jowon Briggs.
The show started with a discussion around head coach Aaron Glenn, specifically as it pertains to recent criticisms of him. Mike, in particular, was a little annoyed with the response from some Jets fans about the team's performance in recent weeks.
Mike defended Glenn, arguing that some of the criticism he's received has been unfounded, pointing to a practice-squad-caliber roster and a clear tanking approach. Justin provided the opposite perspective, expressing hesitancy about Glenn while also acknowledging the team's glaring personnel shortcomings.
The result was a 20-minute discussion that took a look at both the pro-Glenn and anti-Glenn arguments. Glenn and the Jets clearly have their work cut out for them this offseason, but patience is unfortunately necessary for the time being.
Justin and Mike then broke down a couple of Jets-related stats in the return of the Gang Green Stat Machine (GGSM). The first stat showcased just how dominant defensive tackle Jowon Briggs has been this season. What is Briggs's ceiling? Is he already a top-three player on the Jets' roster?
The second stat detailed Brady Cook's struggles in Week 16 and how his performance inflated sack and pressure numbers for the Jets' offensive line. While Cook was sacked eight times on Sunday, the offensive line's performance was not nearly as bad as that number would suggest.
Before our Christmas wishlist segment, Justin took a moment to recite a short poem he put together in an attempt to spread some holiday cheer — and to ask Santa for a few Jets-themed favors.
Justin and Mike then broke down their respective Christmas wishlists, complete with a new quarterback, new weapons on offense, and key reinforcements on defense. From Alex Anzalone to Quentin Lake, we discussed a host of Jets offseason targets.
