In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss Rex Ryan's latest comments about the NY Jets, if it's possible to fix the current Jets, and the team's upcoming Week 8 matchup against the New England Patriots.
The show began with a discussion about Rex Ryan's recent comments regarding the Jets. Ryan recently ripped his former team for their supposed lackluster effort and a problematic culture that many believe is the root of the Jets' issues.
Bill Parcells instilled a winning culture in New York upon his arrival, and that carried over through Ryan's tenure with the team. That culture has all but evaporated in the decade-plus since Ryan was fired.
Justin and Mike discussed whether Ryan's comments were valid while also breaking down the organization's identity issues over the last few decades.
The conversation then shifted to a discussion about how the Jets can possibly salvage their 2024 season. At 2-5, the Jets' season is on life support as they enter their Week 8 matchup with the Patriots. What can the Jets do to save their season?
The Jets could consider benching Tyron Smith for rookie first-round pick Olu Fashanu, given the former's struggles. They could also explore making some tweaks to their defensive personnel and identity.
Ultimately, however, the Jets simply need Aaron Rodgers to be better. Rodgers has appeared increasingly uncomfortable and hesitant in the pocket in recent weeks. If the Jets want any chance of going on a run, they're going to need that to change.
Finally, Justin and Mike broke down the Jets' upcoming game against the Patriots on Sunday. Can the Jets make it three consecutive wins over their division rivals while putting an end to their current four-game losing streak? They absolutely need to in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.
